Awful trade. Don't see us doing a deal that helps the Knicks in any way. This would help them drastically. Only way it works is if a third party comes in and it helps our team tremendously.

It's a stupid trade because Shumpert sucks but no the Knicks don't want cap space, and have no hope of getting cap space. They have $53 million committed to Amare + Melo + Chandler. The rest will go to keeping Lin.

I actually don't hate the idea... jus from the vantage point of freeing us up to trade Kmart to Minnie without taking Wes Johnsons contract and having a bu sg....

4 yrs starting at 1.5M is really a cheap contract for the potential... we'd have him playing behind CLee

but, wouldnt go outta my way to make Shumpert happen...

Unless we've already yielded that pick in a different trade.

But that's another "if" in many "if's" that I could post.

Besides, Dragic is worth more to the right team. NY, rich as the team is, might need to keep its money options open.

NY would never do it. Shumpert is very important to their perimeter D. He also has a lot of upside.

Dragic is good, too, but his D is not at Shumper's level. Also, he is going to be an unrestricted FA this offseason and can get expensive in a hurry while Shumpert is on the rookie scale.

The Rockets should do this in a heart beat if offered, but it will never be offered.

Shumpert is a hell of a defender. Trading Dragic, who's on his last year, for a young rookie lock-down defender is worth it. Maybe we can have some space open after a trade and sign Ish Smith to backup Kyle Lowry cause he played great for us when he was here before.

    I'd say "Do it Muray."

IF the Rockets cannot transform Dragic and others into something substantial THEN I would pull the trigger on a trade like this in a heartbeat.

It doesn't make sense for the Rockets to resign Dragic. From the sounds of it, there will be a few teams interested in Dragic for 3-4 years at the MLE this offseason.

I'd rather trade him now (or maybe look at the prospects of an S-n-T in the offseason) than have him locked up behind Lowry at that money. Looking for (yet another) "potential prospect" still locked into his rookie contract makes perfect sense.

And for the countless number of you who add the keen analysis of "no way we help the Knicks"... I think you need to let the dream of the Knicks draft pick holding serious value die. It will undoubtedly be in the 18-25 range as there is no way the Knicks are going to miss the playoffs in the ***** stew that is the Eastern Conference. At that draft position, the fluctuation of one or two spots (Is Dragic going to add more than 2 wins in 30 games?) is not going to matter.

And yes I used the ellipses entirely too much.

Oh I forgot to add that this trade is pure fantasy and as many wiser folks have stated, inconceivable.

I was merely promoting the premise. Especially when we have 12 threads open about how we should be champing at the bit to bring Llull over to be our backup ASAP.

    Solid deal.

Dragic likely won't be back, so getting a young rookie scale guy with upside is solid.

I would do this in a heartbeat!

I'd even include T-Will, so they can still have a back up two.

yeah this is actually a good deal for Houston. Dragic is gone and the knicks got a late steal with Shumpert. He's locked up cheap.

that said...it's hard for me to see Houston doing a deal with the Knicks that improves their playoff chances this year; given that we own their 1st round pick.

Knicks fans believe very much in B-Diddy, so they wouldn't make this trade. They've waited months for Baron to come back and trading for Goran would make no sense.

That sounds like an absolutely terrible idea. It's amazing to me that people get paid to write idiotic stuff like that.

I'd do it in a heartbeat. We were going to lose dragic for peanuts in fa anyway. Utah would sign him.

You do this if you're the Rockets. Both Dragic's and Lee's contracts are up at the end of this year, and both will likely command the MLE or something just under it. Lull and Shumpert would give you some solid talent off the bench for less $$ than Dragic and Lee.

Yeah, apparently the majority of Clutchfans' posters still have Rockets-player-itis -- where they think Dragic has some kind of mega value. Sigh.

Dragic is all but gone in a few months guys. If first round talent is on the table for him(which I do consider Shumpert to be) on a high value contract (which he is) then of course you do it.

I like Dragic alot.... I mean ALOT, but unless the Rockets are making a commitment to him in the summer then this would be a damn good trade for the Rockets to make if its really available.

There is also a real possibility that the Rockets loose Courtney Lee in the offseason too, and while Shumpert isnt nearly as efficient on the offensive end, he does have alot of the same abilities as Lee on Defense and is more than capable of being Martin's backup next season.
