I really think that rockets can play well even without Yao, Tracy, Ron..or even...Ariza

I'm not really against this quote or anything...but give it a rest already. IMHO only Rudy T and the rest of Rox champions are allowed to say it, to refer to this team as "champions" is ridiculous because iirc, Ariza is the only one on this team who has experienced a championship. Even the context is wrong, its supposed to be for a "has-been" who has been written off, in our case we are "never weres" because they has never really been a time the new-age Rox have been considered serious championship contenders.

These guys definitely have heart, but I don't think they deserve the champion label until they actually won something.

Looking off Ron Artest: I'll take your Artest in undershorts on network TV and tales of halftime Hennessey, and raise you with Dennis Rodman wearing a bridal gown and kicking a courtside cameraman. Let's see if Phil Jackson and Bryant can keep Artest from derailing a championship in 2010 as well as Jackson and Michael Jordan did with Rodman from 1996-98.

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll remind you that a lot of people on this BBS also had low expectations for us. Those would be the people who apparently didn't tune in to watch the Rockets in the playoffs last year and at other times when Yao and/or McGrady was injured. Those are the people who seem to divide all players into two groups: stars and scrubs, with no one in between. And they're the people who grade everyone on scoring and athleticism, and downplay such things as defense, basketball IQ and unselfishness.

The Rockets are deep with players who are very good, but not quite superstars, and players who do the unglamorous but important stuff and play team basketball. The people with only stars in their eyes will never get this. But what's important is that Morey and Adelman do. And that's why the team's winning.

Formular to win Coach of the Year:

    Bad team record previous years.
Suprising good record this year----Win COY
Higher expectation next year. But actually back to normal----Fire COY.

I think COY is reserved for bad coach.
Good coach always perform good thus no supprise. They would win championship but won't win COY.

since we arent EXPECTED to win championship and we somehow become a championship caliber team. doesnt that constitute a COY.

COY has nothing to do with playoff achievements.

but the seeds going into the playoffs do have an impact. if we finish the season as top seed w.out 11 and 3 that should be enough to give RA the COY

Coaches are expendable, while it's more complex for GMs to rebuild the team.
And another important factor is it's really difficult to manage the expectation.
Coaches usually have a good team and good record to win the award, then the expectation will go higher plus it is very difficult to justify everything that is happening on the court and lockroom. So when bad time comes, coaches would be on fire and maybe the first one to leave.
