I've thought one of the more interesting things of this is the other owners were unaware that what he did breached the constitution.

No court is going to uphold 13c, but 13a seems likely

Why did a woman that seemingly had everything lined up do something that could jeapordize her status, etc??? It just doesnt make any sense. Why even secretly record a conversation and have the entire nation captivated by a 80 year old senile owner?? I spoilered the message below if you really wanna read anything else from this point on at one plausible explanation.

    Conspiracy Theory alert:

Could Donald Sterling be a victim of investment banker poaching???

As much controversy Donald Sterling has created since the start of the playoffs, all information has clearly shown that this man is suffering from some sort of psychiatric ailment.

Enter Guggenheim Partners. Magic Johnson was backed by a team of wealthy investors that acquired the LA Dodgers for a record 2 billion. Interesting that this very company is now one of the lead companies that have shown extremely high interest in wanting to purchase the Clippers, another LA based team.
Vivian Stiviano and Magic Johnson might just be that puppet that helped force the hand of the NBA to force Sterling to sell to this investment banking firm. Why is all of this interesting? Vivian Stiviano was linked to Jerry Buss during the early 2000's, and now with Sterling's. Coincidentally, this company was founded in 1999(a company that has seen its net worth go from 5 billion to almost 200 billion in approx 14 years). Makes me believe they tried pulling something similar with Buss and the Lakers, but it just didnt work out.

Why does all of this even matter? Guggenheim is in the process of trying to acquire a major television sports network. And as you are guessing, TV contracts are the owners baby financially. And if they control the television markets, they effectively own the owners of the NBA.

This might be a bunch of hot garbage, and might not have any worth; but something tells me that Vivian Stiviano and Magic Johnson were pawns for this company.

Hear is a nice piece on who this company is exactly:

Why isn't Hakeem putting together a group of wealthy Africans to buy the Clippers?

Hakeem has money issues. Hence the reason he has surfaced around the nba again charging ridiculous amts for his camp, begging Morey for a job and starting to endorse shoes again.

Sounds like Yao is most likely to be the next partial owner of Clippers, and Sterling would get a pretty good price. A lot of Chinese investors are looking for ways to invest overseas and get away from the unpromising domestic real estate/stock market.

how does any of that make Yao the most likely suitor, though? seems like the dark horse in the race, if you asked me.

Well, if Shelly Sterling has a say in the sale, Yao Ming's group has a good chance. She and Donald's history suggest that they would trust Yao to pay the sale price on time and keep the team clean.

IMO Yao's group would be the one most likely to overpay.

USA Today reporting that Shelley Sterling is still angling to retain a minority ownership in the Clippers.

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...elly-sterling-agree-to-sell-clippers/9485681/

I don't see the NBA letting that fly at this point. I suspect the vote will continue to move forward as scheduled.

She has a pretty strong negotiating position to get a concession. Let Shelley (not Donald) keep a portion as a family heirloom, and the big lawsuit that will drag this thing out for a couple of years can go away. I can see the NBA taking that deal. The players will complain, but they'll go along in the end.

Actually, I really don't think she's in that good a position at all given she's not the controlling Member of the group.

I suspect the NBA's case is a LOT stronger than some here think, ie, I wouldn't be shocked if a judge shot down any attempt to get an injunction given the outline of the constitution.

The NBA's immediate response seems to point towards that as well...

I tend to agree. Folks (media guys and fans) have talked a lot about how tying things up in litigation is a threat to be used as leverage. It may be to some extent. But...

    1. To really stop a sale or whatever, the Sterlings can't just file a lawsuit, they must also get a judge to agree to issue an injunction by satisfying the legal tests for that.

    2. The NBA may not even mind that a sale of the team being delayed for a couple years as long as the Sterlings are not in control during this time.

The NBA owners are not trying to get the sale proceeds in their hands (is it even their money?). All they want to do is to get out of the PR hit that Sterling caused them to take. So as long as their sponsors, fans and players are OK with the NBA doing its best on the legal front while the Sterlings are not in control of the team and these NBA customers and partners don't blame the NBA for any legal delays, I'd think the NBA would be fine with just doing what it takes in the courts.
