if it's a full tear (it didnt look like it was), it's a year minimum, so probably his career, if it was a partial tear, he could be back early/mid next season. And yeah, they could get an injury exception for the $30m, they're still so far over the salary cap even without him on the books, and all they'd get is a free MLE, but it would get them under the luxury cap.
Just got home. Can someone recap me on the Lakers game besides the Kobe injury? NBA.com doesnt have the highlights yet but I heard they shot 50 ****ing free throws. Did the game look badly rigged or what?!?!
They won't be able to amnesty him because no one would take on his contract in this state. If they did, that would be some serious rigging.
NVM, I had a brain fart about amnesty. I guess they could? There's probably some injury rule though because technically some other team would have to take on part of the contract and he wouldn't be able to play for them.
They can amnesty him but I don't think they would. It's Kobe. They aren't going to take a risk that Kobe returns for the playoffs next year in the Mavs or the Spurs uniform. Better yet the Clippers (that one is near-impossible but not entirely impossible).
That's not the reason. No one is really scared of an old Kobe returning from injury. The real reason is that the "Laker fans" would set the town on fire if they got rid of their idol.
well that's what i am talking about. why do you think i singled out the Clippers? imagine Kobe in the Clippers uniform in the playoffs. that's the ultimate WTF moment for the Lakers fans.
Done next year, probably, end of career, not likely. Though we've almost certainly seen the last of Kobe as a top ten player.
