He is very reliant on his athleticism but on the other hand he has never had an real injury issues. He can really pass and dribble and make plays.

I think he would be really good off the PnR with Lin/Harden.

Defensively, he's fantastic which is something a lot of people ignore.

You're using a one-game sample size in a game where the Mav's defense decided not to show up to make an argument for Smith?

I'll make sure to point out the next game where Smith shoots 4/14 to make my argument then.

Smith takes about 16 shots a game. Any guess on how many points he averages? --> about 17. He's scored 20+ points in merely 14 games in 46 games. On a team where he's the leading scorer/shot taker!

Oh yeah, good point. It should be Teague or Harris or Horford or Korver jacking up 15 shots a game.

Fact is that Josh Smith can 'get his own shot' better than those guys, and so he's called upon to do so a bit more often.

In years gone by, when the Hawks had better offensive options (Joe Johnson/ Jamal Crawford etc) Smith took less shots, and made around the 50% mark of them.
We wouldn't be chasing him for his offensive output, but rather for what he brings on the defensive end. His offensive abilities are 'gravy' on the deal - he only has to exceed Patterson's 11 points on 10 shots to be at worst a wash. The offensive rebounding, and steals/ blocks leading to fast break points would be a significant +

Having said all that, I don't think he's a max guy!! But if we can get the guy this year, I'm all for it.

Granted - the way ATL was constructed this year, Lou Williams was supposed to be the guy taking some of those shots. But that doesn't change the fact that Smith has terrible shot selection.

And yes, his defense is stellar + his rebounding would be a definite upgrade. But the question is always - at what price - if giving up some scrubs (as you suggest) would get him at the trade deadline and HOU wouldn't have to sign him to max or even near max, then sure - he'd be a great addition. I'm all for it.

But the dude is asking for MAX and even to trade for him HOU would have to give up quite a bit. The post I quoted had Smith as option #2 on the team - that's not a championship contender - that's a team that's marginally better than what this team develops into naturally in 1 year (assuming growth from Lin/Asik/Parsons/rookies).

Did not watch a single second of basketball today... Being on the West Coast, I really dislike it when the games end so early. I like coming home and settling in and watching some games till about 9-10pm.

I'm all for dunks but Griffin uses the off arm a lot to get an advantage on his dunks.
