I don't think Curry would have been successful at all in NYC. Guards always need time to establish themselves and Curry was plagued by injury for his first few years. NY Media would have gotten him shipped out. Successful guards are almost always drafted to small and medium market teams over the last 20 years (Young, Harden, Westbrook, Paul, Lillard, Booker, Morant, etc). Low expectations and a patient fanbase seem to do wonders for them. Curry in NYC would have been a dumpster fire caused by media attention.
