For Chris Paul, a pick and pop PF is ideal. DeAndre would be fine in the pick and roll, but as it is right now, Doc has the defense flex to clear space out for Griffin to use his speed to quickly establish deep post position before the defense collapses again, so DeAndre can't even do garbage man duty on that side of the ball a lot of the time (DeAndre is a much improved player and has picked up most of the slack of the changes that made the clippers probably the worst rebounding 1-2-3 in the nba), none of those other guys need that at all. The alternative would be some sort of 5 that can stretch the floor, but there's only one of those in the league (Marc) that isn't a terrible defender.
What they're doing now is kind of a qb handoff where they run pick & roll with Griffin and then when DJ's man comes to cover Griff, Griff throws an oop to DJ. There is just a lot more movement in Doc's sets and the Clippers look a lot better when they use it, vs the iso ball we often see to close. But for all of this to work well, the Clipper wings really need to be hitting shots. Once Reddick returns, they'll look a lot better. Barring injuries, the Clippers will be very good post all-star break. Maybe you guys think I'm a homer but I have always been honest about the team (including predicting both playoff series losses), and this year's team is much better than last year's, even though they probably had a better record at this point last year.
When you talk about an alley oop play as a staple set, I do wonder where you miss why people don't see the Clippers as a legitimate post season threat. The Clippers are like the complete opposite of us, defenses can seriously hinder their performance, we're the opposite, our offense is all on us, we can take the Spurs for 115 and follow that up with 90 against the Jazz, lol. I'm not really sure why anyone would want to play us, unless they lacked confidence in their ability to beat a consistent team, we're a Jekyl and Hyde team, our good is league leading and our bad is league leading as well, lol.
