ok i have to ask you 1 question...and you know this player well....who is more skilled at the Point guard position? Chris Paul or Westbrook
I am not arguing that athleticism isn't important, but you seem to assume that anyone who is an athlete has no skill. Griffin is a better post player than either of those guys and it's not because of athleticism. You can't dunk it from 3-10 feet, which is what those stats track. We are talking about jumphooks, bank shots, and various other plays around the rim. Everyone thinks Griffin gets all of his points off dunks but that isn't even close to the truth.. in fact, most of his points come on plays from the post.
I know his points are not all from dunks...He has skills for his size and build...but you said have me laughing at him being the "most skilled PF". Put a defender that is big, strong or athletic as griffin and he might struggle. Zbo is just as strong as Griffin, Griffin cannot play bully ball on Zbo.
Well, it really depends on what you mean by "skill" again. I don't think it's debatable that Griffin is the best ballhandling and passing PF in the game right now. He is one of the top rebounding PFs. He is one of the top PFs in shooting percentage. I mean, I can see an argument that Love or Notwitski is more skilled because they shoot the jumper better, but that is also overlooking all of the other things Blake is more skilled than those guys at. So if you are defining skill very narrowly based on post moves or jumpers or whatever, then OK, but if you account for the whole spectrum of the game, then I don't think you have a good argument. But I did forget that Anthony Davis is technically a PF (I think of him as a center, like Duncan), and that being the case, he is more skilled than Blake.
Though I wouldn't call Griffin the most skilled PF, his post play and mid range shooting both improved significantly this year. As for a big strong athletic defender on Griffin causing him to struggle, that's pretty much true for every 2nd tier star players in the league. Put a long, athletic and disciplined wing defender on Harden and he struggles mightily. Put a big bodied center on Howard and he struggles etc.
being sarcasm... Kids... Basketball skills and physical skills...are two different sets of skills example Basketballs skills = Scola(houston version) i dont watch him after he left Physical skills = Griffin
Last season playoffs, i dont watch griffin this year...Zbo is not known as a defender, why does Zbo guard can him really well because he can match up against him strength wise. Blake had trouble because he doesn't really have a go to move in the post(lack of post skills) He uses his quickness, speed and athleticism to get around finish layups and dunks(physical skill set). The way Luis Scola scores is with post moves, footwork, fundamentals, pump fakes, head fakes. Imagine if Luis scola had Blake griffin's size and athlectism, or if Griffin had Scola's footwork, moves and IQ in the Post...He would be a SUPERSTAR....A Hakeem Olajuwan.
of course Howard would struggle...He is another player that dominates because of his PHYSICAL skill set...6ft10, 265lb Strong, quick and athletic.
Especially Last season with the Lakers, when Houston played him...Asik Guarded him well! Asik is just as big if not bigger than Howard, and Howard last season because he was not as quick couldn't get around players like he used to when he was Young Orlando Magic. But this season Howard's post moves have been a lot better compared to his Lakers season.
