Magic was neither the leader nor the best player on the Lakers as a rookie. He only won the Finals MVP because Kareem was injured and back home in LA and Magic had a spectacular game 6 without him. Kareem had the far, far better series though.

LeBron has led the Heat in just about every statistical category in both the regular season and playoffs. I don't know if that makes him the leader or not, but it clearly makes him the best player. That Wade is having a better Finals is a consequence of small sample size (three games, for reals???) and different matchups (since Wade is a much better zone buster than LeBron AND has the more favorable man-to-man matchup). Same deal with all of the other "wrongful" Finals MVPs already cited, including, ahem, Magic over Kareem in '80.

Is Lebron a top 10 defender of all time?

I think it is an issue because a great finals performance is Wade's claim to fame. We all knew Wade steps his game up in the finals and that's what he is doing right now. Lebron is shooting better from behind the 3 point line but his points, rebounds, and assists totals are all down. No he isn't playing bad basketball but he isn't playing great basketball either which is what you would expect from the best player in basketball.

LeBron isn't getting outplayed by a wide magnitude for the following two reasons:

    - he is dropping 20/6/6 on 51% and 48%
    - there is this thing called defense, and he is making a hell of an impact there this series as he has been doing all postseason

So since LeBron is getting outplayed in the Finals, it drops him to second banana even though up until the Finals he led the team in everything and outproduced Wade during the entire regular season? I don't think you have responded to this yet, because my whole beef is with calling a man doing something we havent seen before (leading the team in the 3 major categories in the postseason while also being a primary, lockdown defender) a 2nd banana. How are you a 2nd banana when no one else has done what you are doing? At least not in the past few decades.

I don't care if my best player isn't my team leader if he is outproducing everyone on the team. So we will disagree on that one.

kidd needs to stop cross court passing. heat are too athletic for that.

kidd and dirk need to box out better, but that's no surprise. they'd win these games pretty easily if they got their defensive boards

Shouldn't that have been offensive basket interference?
