I know most of you don't like the Spurs, but lighten up a little bit. A team that's won 2 of the last 6 titles and one game away from a third is nothing but a bunch of chokers? They've got heart, too, and they've got that same championship experience that Detroit has. I've got a lot of respect for the Pistons, and they could easily win this game, but it's not like they're playing a soft, mentally fragile team that doesn't have experience winning big games.
The Spurs are great when they're blowing teams away, but I question how good they can be when their backs are really up against the wall. During the 2 championship runs, how many elimination games have the been involved in? They've only had one elimination game the past 3 years (vs the Lakers last year) and they responded by getting blown out by the Lakers. Say what you want about the Pistons ("they're just fluke champs"), but they've proven time and time again, in must win situations, they come up big.
But Dan Crawford will reward him 33 FTs in game seven. As such, Mr. Fundamental will get an automatic 23 points from the stripe to pile up his stats. And of course, all those 10 missed FTs will occur in the 4th quarter and OT.
Whoever mentioned that this was going to be like the Rockets-Knicks series has been dead on for the last 2 important games. Even if Detroit doesn't have home court, they're definitely tougher and battle tested like the Rockets.
There's no logical reason to say "Pistons," but I'm leaning towards it. I have to come up with an answer by tomorrow morning for SI, and I have noooo idea what to say.
I would go with the homecourt. The more desparate team has won every game. In game 6, the spurs didn't have the same intensity that they had in game 5, i guess because they knew they had two chances. Both teams are gonna play all out, but I'd go with the homecourt calls and energy boost for the spurs.
game 7 of the finals, if you aren't desperate for the ring then something is wrong with you. i have to go with detroit because i think they are the better team. plus, i don't want the spurs to have 1/2 a championship more than us.
I'm so glad I've never bet on sports, I can't imagine what people who do have to deal with when it comes to coin-flips like this.
i keep thinking both these things, and yet detroit somehow always pulls through. i mean i never thought we'd be here (hell, i didn't think we'd see game 6) after the first 2 games, and here we are. i still think SA wins, if for no other reason than to piss me off, but this detroit team is crazy with its back to the wall, like us in 94 and 95. i hope they pull it off, but i'm still thinking SA by 7 or 8.
a little factoid...This is the first game 7 of Duncan's career... If Duncan chokes in game 7, I think "Tiny Tim" would be a new, more appropriate nickname for him...
The harder question is who is gonna take the MVP... Whoever comes through tonight should probably just get it.
"I'm hoping John Starks' spirit will go into Chauncey (Billups) or one of them." - Robert Horry on tonite's Game 7
you're only saying that cause you want to bone that fine Spurs fan chick... btw...I wouldn't put money on it...but I have a gut feeling Spers win.
pistons just threw it away giving horry and bowen wide open looks when all they had to do was switch or not weakly double duncan. and they have no offense since hamilton has gone into a shell, billups is hesitant, and prince just won't shoot. #2.5 for the spurs coming up.
