WHAT?? Orlando ended up with both Shaq and Penny, whom we played in the '95 finals. Both were separate drafts.

Wasn't everybody calling Yao the next Bradley?

I hope Bogut succeeds just because it will bring another quality center along. This is one of the worst times for the center position in NBA history...

    I hate the West.

The Wolves and Clippers get to add a lottery pick in the top 14 to already talented rosters. The Lakers, Warriors, and Jazz get to add a top 10 pick to their talented rosters.

Wolves can add a swingman like a Granger, Grahm, McCants.

Clippers can add a quality back up at any position.

If the Lakers are lucky enough to draft Felton or if they move up to draft Deron Williams they will be a lot better.

The Warriors can add depth on the interior with a Fry, Splitter, May, or Vazquez.

And the Jazz can get a PG or SG.

Still, I'm worrying about the Clippers, Warriors, and Jazz here.

Bogut is not impressive. You have proven commodities in Marvin Williams and Chris Paul, who are pretty close to can't miss prospects.

In related news, I hear Shinn is petitioning the league to move his team to the NBDL, where they might be more competitive next season.

Interesting draft position for Portland. Unless something odd happens, Williams and Bogut will be gone and they'll be looking at PGs at the #3 spot when they've already crowned Telfair as their starter for next year. I'd expect a trade.

I'm just happy the Lakers didn't get the miraculous jump into the top 3. That would have been scandel.

I have high hopes for Gerald Green. The guy can shoot lights out, he's got great hops and a great body. I think with time he could turn out very valuable

I totally agree. Hermoine would be absolutely magical playing for the Wolves.

Shaq was drafted #1 in 1992 and then they drafted Webber the next year in which they traded him for Penny.

I think Bogut is a lot better prospect than Williams, who seems to be just another generic power forward with no post up game and lots of athleticism. Without a decent point guard, he's going to get worked over every night.

Bogut is a lot more refined. He's not as athletic, but he can still score. He plays smart, he's a great passer, and he can block shots...

I see the Bucks taking Bogut. He makes sense there as the Bucks need low post scoring and Bogut would give them a presence there. Marvin Williams is more of a SF so if he was taken where does that leave Mason?

But I see the Bucks taking Bogut and Atlanta will be tempted to take Williams but probably should take Chris Paul. They need a floor leader at PG and already have their SF of the future in Josh Smith. If the Hawks took Paul then they could pool all of their resources at going after a C in FA like Curry, Dalembert or even perhaps Gadzuric if the Bucks take Bogut. Or they could take Kwame Brown (he is from Georgia). Either way they would fill their needs nicely with the draft and FA.

It will be interesting to see what Portland does. They have Telfair as their PG of the future. They love Outlaw at SF. They really are looking for a quality SF. I wonder if they roll the dice on Gerald Green at #3. If Williams is there at #3 do they take him even though they have Miles and Outlaw at SF? Or do they trade down and take Gerald Green? There could be movement on Portland's pick.

I love the fact that LA and NY didnt get in the top 3! :)

What have any of them proven? Until they are in the NBA and playing well, you can't say that they are proven. Williams was only the sixth man on his team in college. How do you even see him as being a can't miss prospect. Athleticism does not always make for a great basketball player.

EVERYBODY on a national championship team is a can't miss prospect.

Last time I heard so much fuss about "can't miss" prospects was Jay "Can't Miss" Williams. That went well. Don't even think about mentioning the injury giving him a pass. He want on the IL for stress.

Last I recall, there's only been one big man drafted top 5 in the draft in recent memory who wasn't blessed with great athleticism that can even be called a moderate success and that was Yao Ming. Andrew Bogut is a great player, but the speed of the NBA can make a lot of great skill players look rather ordinary. If he can use skill, smarts and size to overcome his lack of athleticism, more power to him. But you really shouldn't take that risk with a number 1 pick. There's a distinct possibility you'll end up with a guy who always gives you 13 and 8, which while nice, isn't what you need for a number 1 pick.

For every mediocre stiff I can probably name 5 mediocre "athletically gifted" big men. Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler, Jonathan Bender, Stromile Swift, and Marcus Fizer come to mind.

basketball knowledge can overcome a lack of athleticism far more than vice versa

besides...who else is there? Bogut and Williams are the only two players that even come close to #1 pick material in this draft. Williams is more of a project that will take years to develop. Bogut is NBA ready right now...
