then why do we bother with this? why don't everyone just bet either a straight up W or L for the team they are betting on? Why does everyone bother to predict a W/L result AND a margin for it too? Doesnt it mean the bet is going to be so much more difficult?
Yes, this is how casino make their $$. Try and get an equal split on all bets so they enter a spread ie margin of victory
The risk is very high picking a straight up winner. When you play like that, you're playing the money line. For ex. Houston was favored by 6 points. If you play the money line, and betting Houston to win straight up, you're risking like 250 to win 100. So if Houston were to lose, you would lose 250. But if houston won, you only win 100.When you play the spread, you don't risk that much to win. Just using that as an example, not sure if that's the true numbers.
Took LA by the spread tonight, which was another L. I'm gonna take a break for a while fellas. Real life is unfortunately getting in the way. I'll be back soon though. Only like two games tonight. One nba and one college. NBA Cleveland (+3) gonna lock this one in later as I believe the line will go up. Just see this as a trap and new York wins by 1, or Cleveland spanks them. College Southern Utah (+2) one of these games where I don't know anything about any of these teams, but the number matches up. Southern Utah should win straight up. Majority on Montana, with the better record, and a really short line equals a southern Utah win.

You should still post picks for record tracking, even if you aren't betting them. Who knows, maybe without money involved, you will get on a hot streak and people can start tailing you. Or if you go on a cold streak, you could help us by becoming a good fade :grin:

Montana makes a three to tie. 12 seconds left southern Utah has the ball. Inbounds, turnover, overtime, and suck it up. Time for a break. Edit: that and the incredible choke job by Cleveland.
