The NBA is getting even more sissy. This has got to be an early April Fool's joke or something.

I wonder how frustrating it will be for players to not be able to show any emotion in the playoffs.

The hell? Does the NBA WANT the league to be boring? That's where all the DRAMA comes from!

Damn....this is a bit too far. How is enquiring about a call in a civalised tone a tech. i am with you on this one, part of the fun of NBA games, especially playoffs is to watch player emotions and their competitivesness. Wonder if they will give a tech for players 'punching' the air after a great shot or dunk with foul. does that count as a tech or only for the player/side which the fould was called on.

anyway....for the conspericy people, maybe they are doing this early so that once the season starts, Miami/lakers can get all the calls in the world and no one is allowed to complain about it.

Nope they just dont want their puppets to start disobeying the show, even when the refs are obviously making questionable calls constantly. No more Rasheed Wallace chasing refs into their locker room after games.

This rule applies to everybody who has not been on an all-star team or plays for the Miami Heat

This is ridiculous...players are going to have to be robots or are going to be ejected for picking up their second T before the first quarter even ends

I also wonder how Battier will be able to talk to the officials now.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but this just looks like pretext to more questionable and superstar calls. Everyone can pretend sports are 100 percent fair and theres no inside force controlling them. The evidence is right in front of us, but because some "deadbeat crook" named Tim Donaghy said it, then it couldnt be true.

I see a dramatic spike in technical fouls coming this season

What do technical fouls give them? Point control, control of momentum, control of time. Control of the game. Boring. I love my Rockets and will watch every game, but the variable of the referees is getting old.

Last year it was said they'd call flops. Sadly that didn't happen here's hoping this is a fail too.

I honestly thought this was an article from the Onion. David Stern is indeed a giant POS

It's weird, the league seems so determined to push away viewership.

I say give the players 2 techs if they grimace after getting an injury. 15 games suspension if they cry. Don't forget the hallway passes too.

jeez this cant be real. sports can be frustrating. theyre fighting hard in the game, and they have to worry about not looking frustrated. what they should crack down on is the bulls-it fake drama like the offcourt dancing from lebron, kg's powder crap, or kobe's cheap shots to other players (like the stuff in our game 1 series 2 yrs ago).

Good point. If they're going to implement this other crap, they should definetely call techs on flopping too. I got so tired of Pryzbilla flopping when guarding Yao just to name one person.

This probably will be executed poorly, because player whining is so ingrained in the game of basketball. Theoretically, I understand where the NBA is coming from. This has less to do with passion and emotion and more to do with b****ing at refs. No fans want to see robots out there and the argument that the NBA wants robots is false. Emotions, screams, celebrating...it's all acceptable, just not when a player is doing it to a ref. And that CAN be a good thing because refs are human and I think players can influence refs with their actions.

If players just shut up about officiating and play, in theory there would be less pressure to placate the stars and whiners, and most stars are big whiners.

NBA refs have a hard job. I hate missed calls with a passion, but I don't think the players complaining makes the refs better. If anything, it creates distractions, influences the refs (negatively or positively), and takes away from the game.
