help me understand how this is any better news. we always knew surgery was an option...and that it carried with it the risk of not working - leading to retirement...but the potential reward of him being able to return sooner.

this isn't news on his condition....it's just passing along the route the doctors are going to take.

He is all about the team.

We love the Rockets, but at times we fans forget why we love our Rocket Team. Everybody wants a good ending for this guy.

I want to believe we can make a dent in the playoffs, I want to believe.

But a little of me knows the truth. So I want to enjoy what we have, regardless of the situation.

Which is news because seeing if it would heal with more time was a distinct possibility. Additionally there were rumors out there that Yao was saying "no surgery".

    Sign Gortat. Sign Artest.

    Get Yao/McGrady back mid-season.

We could be one DANGEROUS team nearing the post-season, holy crap.

For me, what you do now is
    1) resign Ron
2)wait and hope Yao will be back after allstar break
3)don't trade mcgrady. hope and wait, hopefully he will be back to his good, old shape by december.

Hilarious! But such is the life of an "NBA beat writer" where pleasing the Rockets is his bread and butter.

Don't we have titanium replacement bones yet?

And he could play in a tenny shoe as big as a ski boot, with nano carbon springs built in to the sole.

After all, this is the town that invented the flak jacket for Dan Pastorini.

ahhh..so you're saying the news that comes out of this with respect to his condition is that they don't believe it will heal merely with more time?

hmmm, well let's see. Tough one. Oh yeah, a vast number of people here and reporters thought this could a) be a season ender(09-10) or b) a career ender. Well, them saying he could be back mid season is obviously better news than a or b. Any more brain busters?

Great!! Finally we will be healthy for playoffs and ready to win.

Who needs winning when we can have fun "getting healthy" ?!!

    Good luck recovering big fellow!!

this is great news!!!...at least we aren't talking about him missing the whole season now....if this is not MAJOR surgery, maybe he can be back a little before the all star break....this was the best possible news....relief...i hope this is just not a ploy by the Rockets so they can sell more season tickets and then after the season starts they say he is out for the season!!...that would be bad

are you thinking this means it STILL couldn't be a season-ender or a career-ender??? i'm clearly not as smart as you, because i don't see that there at all.

it wasn't reporters and people here saying it could be a season-ender or a career-ender...it was doctors....and they're still not sure....they won't be until after surgery is complete and we see what happens. that's what's been said all along.

Yao Ming didn't have surgery. The doctors (probably that Clanton dude) decided to let Yao Ming heal "naturally"-they just put his foot in a boot and told him to stay off it. That's why Yao Ming was mad, he could have had that surgery as soon as his season ended and he could have rehabbed instead of wasting the months away.

Where are all the team doctor apologists again? I mean, first they were with T-mac 2 seasons ago, and now this. The Houston doctors are supposed to be the best in the biz right? All the injuries are caused by the players' frailty right? How come I never read about other team's doctors messing up like this?
