Glad to hear that, but it remains to be seen if the Wizards or any other team is willing to give them up.

We can probably get theirs just so they can move Brand or Dalembert. We don't even need Iggy or Dalembert and no thanks to Brand to make a possible Amare trade just for their pick. More like use McGrady in a 3-4 team scenario and just swap picks with them and take back nothing at all except expiring contracts and their pick.

I like Scola as a player and personality, but if we have to give him up for Butler then so be it. That also means Mandry should move in to the starting lineup.
    PG-Brooks
    SG-Butler
    SF-Ariza
    PF-Landry
    C-Chuck
I wouldn't mind having Butler just play the two position, though he is a SF. What's it matter Ariza can't dribble.

why is he on the downside of his career? Because you dont hear about him? Because he's not on sportscenter? Because he's not an all-star officially anymore? Because he's close to 30 years of age?

Fans need to do a little bit more research and not just assume things. First of all, he averaged 20 points a game just last season. He has steadily increased his ppg up until last year. the only reason he dipped to 16 was because of his attempts going down, due to the fact that his teammates are shooting more. You got arenas back for almost the firs thalf, shooting 20 shots a game. Boykins is on the team, who's a scoring point. Mike miller is there too, who also is a scorer. Butler's drop of 4ppg is literally spread out over a very slight drops in FGattmps, FT attmps, and 3 pt attmpts.

the guy has averaged just under 40 mins a game for the last 4 seasons, and his minutes actually increased since last year. Doesnt sound like a player who's going downhill to me...his turnovers and assists are down, which tell me he's not handling the ball as much this year, but that's due to arenas being back and boykins being acquired. His rebounding, which isnt connected to him handling the ball, has increased. His fouls, have stayed literally the same, while most guys who are sslowing down would foul just a bit more, but he hasn't. So, again, doesn't sound like someone declining to me....

Y'all are crazy if you dont realize the kind of player Caron butler is. This guy is an ALL AROUND talent:

    85% FT
    45% FG
    6 rebounds
    3 asst
    1.7 stls

Keep in mind his shooting % are weighed down by a bad second year he had shooting-wise...and even then these are solid averages. His 3 asst may not be impressive, but he's shown he can average almost 5 over a season.

His only knock would be his 3 pt%. It's about 30%. And i'm sure some fans would complain about this, but let's be smart about this. We have legit three point shooters already. The ones who are struggling percentage wise are affected by the lack of stars and are often force to rush or jack up shots. I expect all of our three point shooters to increase their % within a healthy roster + butler. What we dont have is that player who can make a strong drive and pop a midrange jumper, much like a sam cassell. that's what butler can do for us. Brooks has the ability, but doesnt always do it, but we've seen it can be effective. How many guys do we have that can score from anywhere on the court? Brooks is it. Butler will be the second. He can post up, drive, great midrange-off the dribble game, and is decent enough from three to be a threat.

Defensively he's god solid quickness and very good strength. He's got a wide body and is tall enough to defend twos and threes. AKA all-around player...

yes he's starting to get a rep for being injured, but there's a different between being injured due to chronic injuries and because of bad luck...butler isn't a tmac or yao, his injuries were a broken hand, a hip strain, and i believe now has a bruised knee....sounds like the kind of accidental injuries that are possible when you play 40 mins a night in the NBA. It's not like he's consistently spraining the same ankle or pulling the same muscle. Also, none of the injuries were severe enough where they'd break him down physically more quickly or slow him down.

He's not as prolific of a scorer as Kevin Martin, or as freakishly athletic as Iggy, but his athleticism and scoring ability more than solid. Best of all, he's got what those two guys lack. Defense (kmart) and fundamentals (iggy). He's a perfect combo of both..

Damn I forgot about Erika Dampier. Well I see no other way around it......we have to trade Yao for Caron Butler. I hoped it wouldn't come to this. :(

I see that he's an all-around player, but what's our line-up going to be once he gets here, and who do we trade him in for?

I just don't see him fitting in with the Rockets. What we had in McGrady was a superstar athleticism and talent. Iguodala has a chance to shine as a starting two. Butler's style of play, however, seems like more of what we've seen before -- strong fundamentals but a lacking athleticism to carry our team over. Much like Battier or Hayes.

Discipline is great to have on the team, but there needs to be a broad perspective when we judge how our team must be.

The trade of Artest for Ariza, IMO, was bad, because, I think we can all agree, we'd be better off with Artest on the roster than Ariza right now. Our complaints with Artest was with his attitude, but we NEEDED something like that.

Right now, I'd take athleticism over strong fundamentals. Iguodala isn't a complete mess when it comes to fundamentals, and Butler can't be taught athleticism the same way fundamentals are taught.

Artest last year and Butler this season have virtually identical numbers while Butler has better numbers this season in a down year. I get what your saying about attitude but Butler has plenty and would fit that bulldog mentality, the Rox have become known for, perfectly. To be honest even with Ariza's struggles, Artest would have not worked well the this years team because he would be the ultimate ball stopper and killed the development of Brooks, Landry and Budinger.

I only like a Caron deal if we don't have to give any assets. If its T-Mac for Caron and expirings, that's a big win for the Rockets. Otherwise, if it costs us Scola, Lowry, Budinger, etc... no deal.

Butler is far from a battier or hayes. Notice how i said Iggy had freakish athleticism, but butler's is very solid itself. I think fans often make it athletic vs not athletic, but there's a middle area there and butler is slightly above it. He can make moves off the dribble very well, a lot better than either batiter or ariza. He can finish better than either as well. He can dunks on guys, he can flip up acrobatic layups. stop on a dime, etc. He's just not going to catch an alley thrown 20 feet into the air or hit a fadeaway three going out of bounds from 30 feet out, which is what iggy might be capable of do it, but let's be realistic, that's what, once or twice a season? That's not going to define our team or our season.

As for fundamentals, iggy has been in the league for a while now, his game is based on athleticism very much... the way is see it, when it comes to fundamentals, iggy is like lebron and butler like kobe. Both can shoot, dribble, etc. but kobe has his form perfected more than lebron. He's not gonna carry as often as lebron and he's not going to be as inconsistent with his shooting touch/form as lebron. A bucket is worth two whether it's Butler draining a midrange jumper or Iggy draining midrange fadeaway. A layup is two points whether it's butler scooping a nice layup or Iggy making a circus layup. Fans may think iggy will be more effective because he can make more difficult shots, but that's not necessarily a good thing. He makes difficult shots because sometimes that's his only option, it's great that he can make more than most, but that's not going to be very efficient. Butler's game allows him easier opportunities.

Based off recent reports it seems that Washington is overpricing their players. They wanted Rudy Fernandez and Bayless for a rent-a-center in Brendan Haywood for God's sake. I seriously doubt any trade will get done between Houston-Washington unless either Morey or the Wizards front office caves in the final hours.

and about artest....i know it feels like a trade, but it was more of a coincidence. Ron is worth what we're paying Ariza, but let's remember he wasnt going to take that amount from houston. Ron only took a paycut because LA was an ideal destination for him, he wasnt coming back here for the same amount. So to keep ron we would have overpaid him. LA didnt have to. Attitude is nice, and by the way, Butler has a lot of it, but attitude alone isnt gonna get it done when you hog the ball, gamble too much,a nd disappear consistently in the playoffs.

yes, but they recently got relief from the nba due to arenas/crittenton's suspensions, so that's changed their view...they shouldnt be as difficult to deal with as before...

    How recent is this?

It was the third this past week when they were asking for Brooks, Landry or Chase Budinger at least to be apart of the deal.
