Butler is on the downside of his career and is barely worth his contract. Trading for him doesn't get us any closer to a championship unless we're ditching Scrub Battier or aborting the Ariza Experiment.

WHY is everyone acting like the Rockets are trying to get Jamison? The article mentions Butler NOT Jamison

You do it if you can move up in the draft and atleast take your chances.

IMO giving away ANY young piece for butler would be a huge mistake. If you look at the wizards forum, they HATE him because he doesn't play "team" ball.

This, though it doesn't appear anyone you acquire from McGrady will make you a significant contender or close to a championship. Gonna take another 2 pieces or stars imo to be "significant" and to go along with Yao but even then, you shouldn't count on Yao.

NO WAY they trade their draft pick remember they are trying to rebuild not reload. You are basically trading 26 million in expiring money, Bud/Taylor and a much lower pick then the 14th choice, considering we would become a much better squad, for Jamison/Butler/Lottery pick and 4 million dollar short term contract...to one sided.

If you want to do them in while making them like it lets try...

    TMAC/Scola/Dorsey/1st Rd. Pick

    for

    Butler/Haywood/Stevenson/Young

We basically take 2 of their long term commitments while providing them with 27 million in cap space next season, giving them a solid Center/PF to replace Haywood, developing big man and a mid 20's pick. They are not thrilled with Young but under the right coach he could blossom nicely and Haywood expires after his time is done with us but we retain his bird rights.

Did no one else pick up on this little tidbit from Aldridge's article?:

"The Cavs and Rockets are also in the market for extra picks for 2009, and are willing to pay for them."

I'm assuming that this was just a typo and that Aldridge is talking about 2010 picks. Very interesting.

Way to try and use those T-Mac/Yao insurance proceeds to help the team, Les!

He has 1 year left on his contract. From a GM perspective he is more concerend about the long-term future, the (Win columb), putting people in the seats especially with Yao out.

UUurrrrrgghhhhh why are the Rockets attracted to injury prone players. Unreal!!!!

Why are they so eager to trade someone if this was suppose to be a so called "experimental season"

That just adds to it...you're essentially giving away a young player for a short term rental who might not even fit.

That is still a good deal even though it costed you your pick, take back Stevenson and use Dorsey instead of Budinger.

    Caron Butler...

Why would you give up more than T-Mac for him ?

For all we know T-mac could be even better than Caron if he played.

I am thinking "pay for them" might mean using TMac to absorb a non-expiring contract and get a pick as a part of the consideration. (Chicago with the Salmons contract might make sense).

Of course, one would prefer getting a "star" in return, but if no such deal is to be had, the Rockets can absorb some salary without affecting the tax situation and the ability to re-sign Scola and Lowry next sason.

Taking on Butler is no where near the value of TMAC's expiring in my opinion and they expect us to add in young prospects and/or Scola for an player on the downside. Luckily Morey is smart and won't be outdone... I could see us doing something like

T-Mac, Scola/Lowry, our 1st Rounder for Butler, McGee, Stevenson, their first rounder .

Yea I mentioned it earlier if we do a deal with the Bulls we BETTER get their mid 1st round pick for all the cap space we would be giving them.

Morey knows as do others that he can move up in the draft using the pieces.
