My point is that ever since he made that statement publicly that he will remail predatory we have had mediocre deals come through. Nobody wants to do business with someone if they think they are getting screwed. If anyone here is in any type of business they will relize that you have to give and take at the right times or you have no mutual agreement. If he is pisses off the other front offices they won't want to deal with him, Pritchard in Portland was like this too.

The bottom line is that you have no idea what is going on in negotiations, and you have no idea how other teams view the Rocket's management team. All you have is what the media gives you, and that is most certainly not the truth. It is unwise to presume that Morey is doing anything less than a fantastic job, as his track record shows. I still don't understand where your original, vulgar post of "Morey doesn't want to get F'ed", comes into play.

He said the "predatory" thing or something like it before the star of the 09/19 season or maybe even earlier. The team has been willing to take on salary as a part of a transaction to add talent for a while now. This is what happened with the Kevin Martin deal on both the SAC end and the NYK end (eating salary for draft consideration), this is also what happened with the Scola deal (involving much less money, of course).

If you think Kevin Martin for Landry is only a mediocre deal, there are probably 28 other GMs (minus Sac maybe) who would have gladly taken exactly the same deal. He's no Lebron James, but still a player teams would gladly have on their roster.

Also, GMs will make deals that make sense to their team, regardless of whether another team says it is being "predatory" -- all teams are predatory, looking out for their own interest in one way or another. Donnie Walsh was not victimized by Morey, he made the best trade he could find at that time for what his team needs (cap space).

It's silly to suggest that, in a league with only 30 teams, other GMs would exclude one team based on some comment the GM made about looking to eat salary for a price-- especially when their own teams are looking to dump salary.

The Rockets have not made a blockbuster mega star deal not because of one simple comment, they have not made such a deal because there are not that many superstars and the opportunity has not presented itself (most likely reason being Yao's injury making this a 40-win team instead of a 50+win team-- guys want to join already-winning situations, not .500 squads that may not have better talent than their existing teammates).

The assumtions can go both ways. I assume he's watching cartoons, you assume he's busting his ass but either way the fact that we haven't got anything splash worthy in a really long time is the only real truth I have and in that aspect your assumptions are more hollow then mine.

My so called vulgar post is just trying to show that he is too scared to make a move because he's afraid he is going to get screwed on a deal. That was all, I didn't mean for anyone to think to hard about it. And if you found it vulgar I apologize.

Let me just remind everybody b****ing about Morey hasn't made a deal yet about the fact that we've had this conversation before. In fact, a reactionary member of the board started a thread lecturing Morey for not being able to make a trade because he's trying to make the best deal for the Rockets instead of making a fair deal.

It's titled: THE ART OF MAKING A DEAL

A few days later, the Landry/Martin/Jeffries/Hill/draft pick trade happened. Every team got what they wanted.

an even better GM/trader would have sold our assets before they became worth pennies on the dollar. DM let our assets get to the point of being low valued.

Yeah... A single game and his only defensive rebound in 22 minutes made Scola expendable!

You guys are wonderful... Really! BTW, why don't we trade Luis for a bag of Chips? That would be a good trade!

Negotiation skills. If your asking price is 120 cents on the dollar, when all is set and done, you may end up getting 90 cents. But if your asking price is 90 cents to begin with, you'll end up getting 50. Morey didn't go to MIT for nothing.

    Patience is a virtue.

Sometimes asking too much is not a good option. Other GMs will just laugh, and probably are, about the way Morey was trying to get Carmelo and still claim he think this team is good enough and all that. It worked once with Tracy and the whole Hill + picks deal but even that was mediocre. Everybody knew Tracy should've been gone earlier.
