Asik played 2 years in Chicago as a backup and average 3pt, 4.4 reb, but Morey paid him 25m/3years A player's value is not only his data, every good GM can find his value
Gw are the media darlings cause of curry and I think mark Jackson. Truth is they are a good team but I'm sorry I can't put my money on a team whose best player has glass ankles and rely heavily on 3s. Rockets do rely too heavily on 3s but if we can solve the asik dilemma and be more consistent against the mediocre teams, we can still make some noise. My grade so far is about the same, but could easily have been an A save for 5 or 6 bad losses.
I think that's fair. I would say our record probably bumps us from a C+ to a B because of our incredible inconsistencies, our scoring droughts, our terrible defense, and our inability to close games. I expected more, but I have faith once everyone is healthy and we put the effort on the perimeter D, we'll by an A by the playoffs.
What I don't get is why the media continues to gush over GSW. They are closer to falling out of the playoffs than getting homecourt advantage.
even NBATV went in on the Rockets during their mid-season grades show. How can a team with a grade of B, a couple games out of first place in their division ,in the 5th place in the conference be one of the most disappointing teams in the west? I mean, they devoted at least 5 minutes to how disappointing the Rockets were so far. This is the first year this team is together, one of the youngest teams in league and battling injuries. Not to mention, the Rockets have played some truly awful basketball and lost to some truly terrible teams which means they can only get better.
That's how ridiculously high expectations were preseason. I posted a link to an article in which a very respected stats analyst predicted the following wins based on what type of season Rox have-it was something like: bad season: 53 wins Average: i think 60 or 61 very good: 70 so by those expectations, they see us as having an average to bad season compared to our potential. not saying I agree.
That's because those people actually see teams beyond their won/loss record. Baskeball-reference had us as 10th in the league and expected win-loss at 30-19. Last season our expected win-loss was 50-32, and with our current achievements, we are also expected to become a 50-32 team this year. This does not even include 5-win improvement from our core and young players as mentioned by Morey at the beginning of this season. Our defense ranked 13th and offense ranked 8th. We are a much talented team individually but the sum of the pieces fell way short as a whole.
I don't get it either. I think a B grade is fair at this point. They've certainly lost many games they should have won, but they are still right in contention even for that #2 spot.
