This why I think its silly to think which guy starts or sits.

The big thing is that one of the thing Harden rarely does is push the tempo - he'll start and lead a fast break but he will not push the tempo. Both Bev and Lin even after an opponent's basket or missed shot will try to bring the ball up as fast as possible. If the ball goes to harden and he brings it up - he'll just walk the ball up the court. Even though this team is trying to become more of a 1/2 court team with the addition of Howard pushing the ball is still the best way for the team to get easy points and good looks.

And I totally agree that Garcia should play less - if his shot is not falling there is not much he can contribute to off the bench. He doesnt drive or create shots the way Casspi does at least.

Playing Bev/Lin also allows Harden to get more rest as well - now that both of the guys are healthy I am looking forward to the two of them playing together again.

McHale's secret playbook we never knew.
    Step 1. Showcasing.
    Step 2. Hard selling.
    Step 3. Trade.

    Bye Pat. Bye Lin.

I think it is stupid to argue, who starts...

Lin in most games gets a ton of minutes...

once again im sure most Lin fans are NOT arguing if he should start or not... but how Lin is being used...

he is putting up good numbers being used as a SG

but he plays better as an aggressive, distributing PG

Too often this year, our offense is bogged down and our defense is non existence to start to the 4th. I like both of them to start the 4th Q and then bring in a well rested Harden for the finish (either with one or both of them).

Good Duo, I like that Bev hypes up Lin. Lin def needs someone to hype him up for him to do well. Lin seems pretty happy when Bev does something well too. Two have a lot of good energy. On the Knicks, Chandler was the energy guy.

this has been one of the biggest changes going from asik to howard. off the reb, howard doesnt look to pass it off quickly. he waits for everyone to clear then passes it off and jogs up to play 1/2 court. asik last year passed quickly leading to many transition buckets. with the small lineup of lin-bev-casspi-jones-dmo, they start running once they get the reb. this lineup wont work on all teams but they sure as heck push the pace...

Not just Harden, Howard after he secures a rebound, he has the tendency to hold it for a few seconds before passing to the PGs to start the fast break (if you still call that fast break by then). Hopefully he's just still getting use to who he should pass it to. There was a thread about it a while ago. The Cleveland game Bev and Lin each had double figure rebounds, and that really helped pushing our tempo as they start the fast break the moment they got the rebound. Hope Howard starts to pass the ball out more quickly after getting the rebounds. We don't need him to have Love's outlet passes, but just work with the PGs to know where to find them to pass the ball to.

McHale spoke to this in his post-practice interview from today. Said there are two types of guys in the league - (1) those who get the ball and immediately do something with it, be it pass, shoot, get it up the court, and (2) those who get the ball and massage it. Said we have multiple massagers and are constantly working to break that habit.

Obviously not, given how he broke out with the Knicks. The guy was completely unheralded. Lin just plays better when the team actually plays as a team.

of course both of them are great. this team is great.
we have our starting 5 but our bench has to consists of combo players

we have lin who can play a 1 or 2
we need to replace garcia with someone who can play a 2 or 3
and we need to hope that Dmo can step up and play that 4 and 5

Not about Lin or Beverley, its about Lin and Beverley. They work well together.

Lin and Beverley do work together...... and I hope they work well, together, off the bench.... when the Rockets get a real starting point guard.

In all seriousness... Lin and Beverley on our bench would be excellent, just neither should be paraded out for the starting line up introductions.

Love seeing knowledgable bball IQ discussions like this on here, on things that can make the team better. I've noticed this also compared to asik last year, part of the reason we would blow out alot of teams last year was because when we were up 10 we wouldn't let up we would just keep pushing on fast breaks go for the knock out vs the 12round game.

What I notice this year we will have a big lead but Howard would like to get rebounds slow it down take a few secs to give the ball up. This gives a defense time to get set and better there chances of getting a stop.

We should find a balance because we will need both in playoffs, but I would say always push see if something is there with a young team if not them pull back set up a play.

Example is how cavs got back in the game we tried to slow it down in the 3rd but when dmo & Lin came in Lin and bev took in there hands to get rebounds and just push it themselves

Every "real starting PG" (whatever that means) is going to think twice before joining this team given how little freedom point guards actually get here. Lin has already shown that the team can win with him as the main offensive facilitator, but the insistence on going through Harden will stifle anyone who joins.

Mchale has impressed me at tikes this year with these kind of comments, he even said they had they had a defensive scheme vs the cavs and that guys just weren't doing it. I'm starting to wonder how much of Mchale bad coaching is players not following directions.

That still falls back on him because he has to demand respect or take the player out. Maybe it started with parsons sat. And we will start to see more discipline for mchale. I've saw him take out Howard plenty of times when asik was here.

    Riiight

Who would want to join a team with the best center and shooting guard in the NBA and a SF that hits 40% of his open 3's.... ohh and a team that has a crap bench and still will win 51-56 games.

Give it a rest... besides, most likely, whomever they get at point guard will be via trade.

The Rockets weakest starting position is PG. The Rockets need better outside shooting, and the easiest place to get that is from a PG.

I love Lin and Beverley as bench players. Both can help the team, but they are not good enough to start for an elite team long term.

Can you give an example of such a PG that Rockets can trade for?

I'm just waiting for someone on the casting team to say something like

"An assist from Lin and Patrick Beverley nails the 26 footer! Man I tell you Bill, Lin and Beverley goes together like PB&J"

    And I'd be like :)))))

Even if DWill or Kyrie were here, I'd guarantee this team's record wouldn't be all that different if they were used the same way Lin and Bev are now.
