so the division champs don't get 1,2, and 3 anymore? I know the rule about the team with the better record getting homecourt but i didn't know the division champs no longer get the top 3 seeds.
The 16(and counting) game improvement over the 2005-06 season is a worthless stat. I believe T-Mac and Yao played together in only 31 games last year and their record was 21-10, and that was with an inferior supporting cast, so barring injuries, this was supposed to be a 50+ win team. But note that last sentence. "Barring injuries". Yao was out for 32 games with a broken leg and Van Gundy led the team to a 20-12 record in his absence. And that includes a 10-4 record in a brutal January right after Yao went down. Yes, what Avery, Popovich, and that whiny b**** D'Antoni have done this season is impressive. But none of those guys has had to deal with the rash of injuries and Bonzi BS that Van Gundy's been subjected to. Never mind that he's done all of this without a guarantee he'll even be back next season. The man deserves Coach of the Year.
Can someone explain this to me? I know that the Rockets are placed 5th seed with HCA and that Utah is placed 4th because they won their division. If that's the case, shouldn't Utah be placed 3rd and San Antonio placed 4th since SA is in the same division as us?
We lost McGrady and Yao for X-amount of games. What if Dallas lost Dirk and Howard, Phoenix Nash and Amare, SA Duncan and Parker? Could they maintain the winning? Maybe, but they didn't have to go through it, the Rockets did. It's hard to argue against JVG for CoY. I have my gripes about his methods and his adjustments, or lack of adjustments for that matter. But the team has won, he gets some, if not a lot of, credit for that.
We'll see... If we pass the second round I will never say a word again about JVG... I think he is a good coach, but fails at improving players, bringing the maximum out of them etc His lack of communication with the team is in my opinion the biggest problem. I am not a fan of JVG and hopefully he can prove me wrong, but I don't think he can push the team through round two...
he deserves it for the sole fact of motivating tmac twice now and deke. but he stil lcan't figure out how to win w/o tmac, play small teams and how to use yao v. those small teams (which are only 2 now in suns and warriors)
how do you know how much he doesnt and doesnt communicate with his team? JVG keeps team business behind closed doors for the most part. fails to improve players? yao, luther, chuck?
i just dont think they can. without tmac the rockets have no one that is a true threat at the guard position. sure luther can shoot but he doesnt scare defenses off the dribble so they can crowd him. battier is the same, rafer, etc. snyder is the only guy that teams would worry about driving, but he also is not that great of a shooter and makes iffy decisions at times.
hmmm if he was a free agent... where'd gay and stromile go? or does shane's contract expire this season?
The guys from Sports Illustrated do no have JVG as their pick: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/basketball/nba/award.picks/index.html They go for Sam Mitchell. Two of them do not even consider Van Gundy among the top 3!!! When is the actual voting? Is it after the first round? If we get past Utah and voting is done after, I think JVG will win.
I would go with Sam Mitchell too......but on the other hand he got some great players coming up the management did a great job with the draft this year
Another one of those JVG sucks because he didn't play enough VSpan and Novak complain. Can't you see they are not that good? Sure Novak can shoot 3s for around 45 FG%, but you can't overlook his lack of defense and rebounding. That's not something he can "develop" with on court experience. Before he get on the court and play some serious minutes, he needs to get in the weight room. VSpan plays great defense, but his turnovers and low FG% make it impossible for him to be on the court. He can penetrate but hes not a superstar, most of the time hes not going to get the foul call and with Yao in the paint there isn't a lot of room for him to drive in.
It has been changed last year (or the year before last year), the three division champs got three seeds out of the top 4 spots. This is to prevent the teams like Spurs and Dallas (if they had the two best records in regular season) from meeting too early in the playoff (2nd round). Spurs have a better record than Jazz this season, so Spurs will be 3rd, but Jazz is guaranteed to be the 4th seed even Rox has a better record than Jazz by the end of the season. However, Rox will steal their home court advantage if we can manage to win the last three games. Go Rox!!
Here are some other reasons my friend JVG wants rafer to shoot threes - I do not agree with this JVG wants luther to run the point - I do not agree with this JVG played Snyder, Bonzi, Novak, Span limited minutes - I do not agree with this JVG uses a "8 man rotation" - - I do not agree with this JVG does not use Batier enough offensively
