cleverly disguised JINX thread, please don't post threads like this anymore, they don't deserve be 3rd in ranking now
We're at #2 this week, have to think the Spurs' loss to the Knicks yesterday helped with that. http://www.nba.com/2016-17-power-rankings-week-17 2 Last week: 4 Houston Rockets Record: 40-17 Pace: 101.9 (3) OffRtg: 111.5 (3) DefRtg: 105.2 (11) NetRtg: +6.2 (3) A softer stretch of schedule has the Rockets on a four-game winning streak, despite the absence of Eric Gordon (back) against Charlotte and Phoenix last week. James Harden hasn't missed a game yet and leads the league in total minutes for the third straight season, but got some fourth-quarter rest on Saturday, because the Rockets' starting lineup outscored the Suns by 30 points in a little over 11 minutes. The other starters with Clint Capela at center have been worse defensively, but much better offensively than they've been with Montrezl Harrell or Nene at the five. And Mike D'Antoni has yet to experiment much with a super-spacing lineup with Gordon in place of a center. This week: vs. MIA and special mention goes out to Trevor Ariza: Plus-minus stud: Trevor Ariza (HOU) was a plus-71 in three games last week.
It's really simple, we have a better record than the Cavs therefore we MUST be better than the Cavs, lMAO. Power Rankings are stupid, never invest time and/or thought into whether a Power Ranking is correct or not, it doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is homecourt in the playoffs and since I really wasn't expecting much from this team, if they make it out of the first round this year I'll be happy.
You have to shift the power rankings around to keep people interested and invested. At the end of the day, injuries aside, it's going to be Warriors, Cavs, Spurs and the rest. They're boosting the Rockets due to schedule. But we're not #2 (unfortunately). It'll most likely still be a Warriors / Cavs finals, with one of the Spurs/Rockets getting into the Conference Finals.
its just a fun way to debate how hot teams are and keep up with current events in the NBA. its definitely bs and stupid but its fun. It's an entertainment business and it gets clicks.
We should just sit Gordon the whole month of February. Let him get his body right for the stretch run.
wow # 2. Feels good to be good. Amazing what Leonard and (even more so) Harden are doing with the talent that's surrounding them. The NBA is the top 4 teams (Warriors/Spurs/Rockets/Cavs) and then everybody else. Or just Warriors and everybody else lol.
Number 2 offense number 11 defense only 4 tenths away from being the 7th ranked defense. The rockets are trending the right way on that end.
still at #3 http://www.nba.com/2016-17-power-rankings-week-23 3 Last week: 3 Houston Rockets Record: 51-22 Pace: 102.2 (4) OffRtg: 112.5 (2) DefRtg: 105.9 (18) NetRtg: +6.6 (3) The Rockets aren't moving up in the standings, but have won seven of their last eight games and improved to 3-1 against their most likely first round opponent with Sunday's easy win over the Thunder. It will be interesting to see if Mike D'Antoni rests anybody or at least extends his rotation over the final nine games. Ryan Anderson is out two weeks with an ankle injury and, without his starting power forward on Sunday, D'Antoni played just eight guys. Even if James Harden's wrist is OK (he fell on it in the fourth quarter), he would probably need Andrew Wiggins (up 15 minutes with an additional game remaining) to take a couple of days off for Harden to lead the league in total minutes for a third straight season. This week: vs. GSW, @ POR, @ GSW, @ PHX
#3 on ESPN too. Which is fair since beating the Nuggets, Pelicans, and Thunder at home ain't exactly a murderers row of opponents. Now if they manage to rank #3 or better next week after facing the Warriors, a road B2B at Portland and Golden State, and a layup at Phoenix, then we'll have something to be excited about.
Yep, not like we are playing for a championship or anything. Every young kid dreams of leading their basketball team to #1 on the ESPN Power Rankings.
