Kobe in the post is a nice story, but if the Lakers are featuring that now because Gasol is out. If they have to rely on Kobe in the post they'll be in trouble.

If BronBron did this he would be a freaking monster. He has a much better body type for posting up.

Kobe has 39 tonight with still 2 mins left....18 of 29 shooting and no 3 point attempts......his MJ transition has started..he's averaging just over 2 three pt attmps this year but has avg closer to five the last several yrs. That was a big difference between their games since jordan was always around 1 or 2 game for the most part, just matter of time before Kobe copied it..

I don;t blame Hakeem. He knows more knowledge then so many people currently in the NBA.

I think its nice to see Kobe giving so much praise and respect to Hakeem. So I don't think its bad atall...

Ditto. His comments in the article shows just how much respect he has for the game and its greats. Makes it that much harder to cheer against him.

Hakeem's post game relies on footwork more than anyone else. The dreamshake isn't really a height only thing, unlike Kareem's sky hook, so I can see why Kobe went to him.

The best wing players that played in the post over the last 25 years that come to mind are:
    Mark Aguire (Mavericks, Pistons)
    Adrian Dantly
    James Worthy
    Jordan

Maybe you guys can think of more...

Kobe could have patterned his moves from them...

I think it will still be difficult to copy Hakeem's dominance over his opponents. His long arms, height, hops, shooting style add to the difficulty of guarding him and that's not mentioning his speed, quickness, and creativity.

Post defense rules are different than the rules outside. Not sure why Battier is playing him soft when he comes to the post. I think Battier should play him like Chuck Hayes would. Maybe we could experiment with Chuck playing him one of these days, but... I know we probably can't spare him as he has other tough assignments...

Maybe Dream can just teach everyone his moves, that way they aren't special anymore. Realistically, Kobe can't get all of Dream's moves in two hours. Think he'd give him everything that easily? Think again.

I always considered Worthy a power forward. Carmelo Anthony is the best posting wing currently. Drexler was pretty damn good in the post also.

Did I miss something or are they saying that Kobe only took two hours to learn Hakeem's post moves? Two hours?!? Dont post moves take months to learn, much less master? Its like Lebron just went to a movie and after he finished the dude he thought he already beat just become 2x more dangerous.

Well, you have to figure if Bryant's the student of the game he says he is, he must have studied tons of videos of Hakeem throughout his life and just before meeting him. The actual two-hour session was probably very specific and detailed, like a meeting between two master craftsmen. Bryant probably then spent all summer incorporating Hakeem's suggestions into his game.

If this is the case, then two hours could make a big difference.

Yeah, Bryant is a student of Hakeem's game. The OP has the Kobe quotes that shows it. Kobe apparently tried to emulate Hakeem, but missed the details to get them right. He just needed finetuning.

I agree, Hakeem is free to work with anyone he wants and is the all time Rocket Great and shouldnt be criticized for this at all.

But it goes to show how warped this board is when Hakeem teaches post moves to a current enemy and Rocket killer and gets no crap, but McGrady gets criticized for teaching post moves to a current teammate.

yeah i think kobe had certainareas he wanted to cover with dream and he probably took mental notes, or even audio/video of it, so he could keep working on it throughout the season...

and i told ya this guy was going to be scary now...he's got 26 at the half, it's now what, three 40 point games out of 6, this should be the fourth this season.. i think he wants to match MJ's 37 a game  ..wouldn't surprise me, he already matched his 35ppg...

When Gasol comes back and Artest gets more involved in the offense, Kobe's scoring will come down. It looks to me like Anthony will lead be the scoring leader.

That's what i was thinking, but i dont know...i wasn't expecting Kobe to go on this tear to begin the season, they have enough talent, even without Gasol, to share the ball, yet hes taking 20 + shots. ....i think the houston series really woke him up and now with boston getting even better and healthy, i think he knows he has to step it up another level himself to secure himself another ring this season. I can see him still going off early in game, even when pau returns, and then tone it down if they have a secure lead.
