Please educate yourself, Howard can't touch Robinson.

I have been advocating for this for a long time. This is how basketball is played. The 5-position scheme is so outdated.

Centers and Power Forwards are indistinguishable. Small Forwards aren't forwards. They are wing players, interchangeable with shooting guards.

With the emergence of combo guards, PG might not be a unique position any more. Perhaps they should just have two types of positions: Perimeter and Interior.

Yea because all the center today don't know how to do anything else besides blocking shots and rebounding and dunking. They don't know the fundamentals of the game. Its like, all the big men coming into the league today think its much cooler to just try to jump over everyone and dunk instead of using footwork or play a good post game.

Its sad that the great big men are extinct. Most centers today just loves to make the highlight reel by trying to jam in the monstrous dunk or swat the ball as hard as they can. I remember Hakeem when he used to block shots, unlike Howard who just swat the ball as hard as he can, would try to block the ball towards his teammates instead of hitting it out of bounds. Dwight Howard is a good player in his own rights but he is leading all the future big man in the wrong direction, away from the fundamental game.

At least we won't see Jamaal Magloires happening anymore.

You're right that PG isn't an entirely unique position these days. For example in today's game, I see James Harden as being closer to a traditional PG (in terms of style of play) than Russell Westbrook, but under which All-Star category do you think the League will put them in? LeBron James and DRose have very similar styles of play offensively, but All-Star voting surely will have them in different categories.

Considering that, plus that we're talking about the alternate basketball universe of NBA All-Star games, I think that doing the big/wing/pg categories comes the closest to providing some semblance of a well balanced starting roster. Otherwise you get a 2005 TMac & Kobe WC starting backcourt, and it even further drags the game into a "stand around and wait for your turn" kind of deal.

    I agree with this

    2 bigs
    2 wings
    1 pg

And I agree with Easy, this is how the game is played.

    btw: why not

    2 Bigs
    2 Wings
    2 PGs

Six players. From those 6 players, coach decides the starting 5 and the sixth man. This is how the game is played. Or is that giving too much power to the fans?

I'm not arguing to argue Fanboy. you said he was underrated. I stated that in today's game he is not, but you can't compare him to Centers of the past until he can do what centers of the past did. He can't lead a team yet, he can't shoot, and he has yet to win a championship. He has a lot of room for improvement and he needs to do so or he'll just be known as a guy who blocks shot and dunks. Trying to insult me doesn't help your case. You put D12 in the top five all-time and he's not even top 5 compared to 90's Centers.

Sigh. It's not an insult because it's obviously true.
You are either not bothering to read the discussion, or you are taking things out of their context on purpose.

first of all, i never said Dwight is top 5 all time, nor did anyone in this thread, that's just ridiculous.
second, Dwight's status among current centers was never in question in this thread, to the opposite. Even the biggest Dwight critics in this thread explicitly stated that he's the best now. So obviously, no one, including me, was ever arguing otherwise. We were talking about where Dwight would stack up if he played in the 90s. People said he'd be a marginal all star if he played in the 90s, and some are calling that underrating, including me. This has nothing to do with his status today, or MVPs today, or all star games today.

Anyway, I feel like a kindergarten teacher here, having to explain a 2 page thread to you because you are either too lazy or too stubborn to read it.
So no offense if i'll pass on further discussion.
