I think what people here have failed to notice is that there is also a WORSE IN THE WEST category which is reserved for those teams that are playing terrible. In my opinion, it is completely fair to call Rockets the disappointing team in the west as we have been very inconsistent. We even set a record of "lowest points scored in the second half" this year!
Rockets were supposed to be doing what Portland has achieved thus far this season. So in that sense it is a disappointment. Houston has more talent than Portland and Portland might be playing on fumes by the time we get into the second half so Houston has a chance to improve. The Rockets have hurt themselves with trade rumors and the inability to integrate Asik into the rotation. They talked like they had a championship contender in the pre-season, but the way they've acted since the beginning of the season belies an insecurity about the quality and fit of the roster. I don't think their defense in the front court is as good as they hoped and might actually be a little worse than last year. Their backcourt has improved defensively, but they're not shooting the 3 ball as well.
Lmao i had them at 4 at the start of the season the many sources had them at 5 i believe? Idk but most disappointing is harsh lol
It's been pretty clear, and not unexpected, that people really hate Dwight Howard for leaving the Lakers and his general wishy washiness over the least 2 years. Basically across the country people have taken every opportunity to take shots at the Rockets from BSPN, TNT and numerous columnists. Sticks and stones. Whle most of us agree this team has been inconsistent and maybe a little below expectations, but the Warriors, Grizzlies, and T-Wolves have all been much more dissappointing. The Rockets are basically on pace for what I expected.
i think the expectations were set too high when we signed howard - truth is while howard is an upgrade to asik, it is not a significant upgrade. perhaps if we relied on jones since the beginning of the season, we would've met expectations.
Superficial analysis. Just pandering. If the Rockets had Asik and he was actually playing I could see 3, 4 , 5 game improvement. All those times dwight was off. 48 minutes of rim protection. I mean Asik was second on our team in warp.
Just checked nba.com preseason rankings. Aldridge, their main guy, had the Rockets 5th in the west. Their numbers guy Schuman had the Rockets 4th in the west(3rd temporarily with the Westbrook injury situation unknown). The Rockets are currently 5th in the west. BTW, did any major news outlet had the Rockets competing for a championship at all before the season? Anyone had us in the top 5 or anything? I mean, I though we were borderline top-10 in most rankings. Even if you take into account NJ/Chicago injuries, it's hard for anyone to say the Rockets at 7th is way too disappointing.
Just curious. Do you agree with Sekou Smith when he said Jeremy Lin disappeared off the face of the earth?
Knicks, Nets, Warriors, Clippers, SA all more disappointing. Just more hate from the national media on Dwight. If he wins, they'll say he should, what took so long. If he loses, it's all his fault. There is a clear agenda with Dwight because he's a happy go lucky guy and the Orlando/LA situations.
Just shows how high the expectations for the Rox were/are this season. That being said, yes the Rox have been disappointing overall and I felt have underachieved because of lack of consistency. My biggest disappointment with this team is that they don't bring the necessary effort every night especially against sub-par opponents which is unacceptable. The team recently looks like they might be getting better in the effort department overall but we'll see. It starts with our two best players Harden and Howard and coach McHale being real leaders as to how far this team can go.
I don't think it's that unfair. You can't say the TWolves because people were still predicting them to be no higher than 7th or 8th. The fact that we're fifth and considered most disappointing shows what sort of expectations they have for us and I think it's fair. Memphis or clippers are also in the same boat but they have had injuries that sidelined their main guys for a longer period. I still can't believe we use injuries as excuses. Dwight has played every game and harden has missed what? 4?
Sorry guys but not a single team in the playoffs in the west right now has had better health than us except the blazers. Spurs have had many starters out. And Westbrook, Paul, Bledsoe, Iggy and Marc Gasol, those players' injuries trumps our teams. Stop making excuses!
Most disappointing things about the Rockets: 1. Coaching. (wait, is there anyone having high expectations for McHale?) The team do not have any plan on defense and offense. It is amazing they can win 60% of the games on sheer talent. 2. injuries. WTH for these 25 year olds getting injured so often? 3. Morey: forget about trading Asik. Are you searching for the next coach yet? That's all. Howard still can play defense when motived. Harden can get his offense going any time plus a nice beard. Lin, Parsons, TJones, Beverley, Dmo, Casspi are killing it ....
But if for any reason we end up seeing Golden State in the first round and Portland or San Antonio in the second round...This most disappointing season would turn right into a WCF appearance
You always go with a better record that is how champions think. Disappointing probably, most disappointing? Not so sure.
Oh really... Every one of our starters for the exception of Howard has missed several games. Lineups constantly changing not giving them time to gel due to those injuries. But on the bright side, the team has had a chance to play many of the players that normally wouldn't get much time thus giving them an idea of what they have.
