A couple of things, it is sad that Landry could have been killed that night and since the injury was minor the story has been dropped. Is this an epidemic, I don't know. I guess athletes have been flaunting their luxury now for about 30 years or even longer so it is interesting that these events have been ramped up.

Lastly Mos Def on his album black on both sides predicted this in the song "Got"

While I am sure that they do it (Charles Barkley recent example), I don't understand why these professional high profile athletes would turn to prostitutes when they can get plenty of good looking and nice women for free.

I hope this rumor isn't true, but if so, someone needs to give these guys social lessons on how to meet decent women that aren't prositutes or gold diggers.

who is this guy?? 1st of all, the people that assaulted landry was not black. 2nd, this guy is using rap artist as his reference.

Its not just black on black crime... Its more poor on rich crime. This article is pathetic.. I didn't even bother finishing it.

LOL...I do understand the point, but still.......... oh well....maybe my morals are just too high for the NBA. They should all just find a great woman and get married with an IRON CLAD PRENUP! :D

Regardless being a black man i live around plenty of latino's. We're all trying to "come up" race plays no role but the fact it was minority vs minority alone shows where he was trying to go in showing/proving his point.

Also when it comes to landry having a ho in his car... i dont condone it but alot of guys now have the game twisted with this "it aint tricking if you got it"... WRONG! If you dont have it in the first place you cant trick it keep your dollars in your pocket and put hers in yours P.aper I.n M.y P.ocket is the definition of a pimp if he had a 2 bit broad in his car then hopefully he learned his lesson (messed up way of putting it but thats what it is)

I don't think the ethnicity of Landry's assailants had anything to do with the lack of outrage afterwards. He fully recovered, is playing, and is grateful to be alive. All signs point to this being a random attack. With no arrests made the story can only be in the spotlight for so long. There are no updates. Everyone on this board was upset about this, but even we have moved on as we have no one to blame.

Compare that with the Nick Adenhart story, where three people actually died by drunk driver. To me, that is an actual cultural problem that's being overlooked. We trivialize every high profile DUI case, from Charles Barkley to Lindsay Lohan. JVG was the only person to publicly condemn Barkley for his actions, IIRC. And now that we have a high profile DUI death, the issue is still being pushed to the wayside. People just don't like addressing problems, I guess.

To me the Adenhart story is worse... the guy who killed him is a year younger than me and had a prior DUI... now i dont drive drunk but will drink while i'm driving (doesnt make it any better) but the guy who killed him along with the 2 passengers should not see the light of day anymore... to be so young and to throw your life away and ruin the lives of countless others (probably hundreds of others) is not only inexcusable but in the manner it happened it was down right dispicable

I do not think one can generalize this incident to the level of the whole society. I would say the NBA players get much more respect than it was in 50's.

Interesting article, but I don't think it is right about much. Random thoughts:

    1. What is with all the lingo? Is he trying to show he's still hip to the hip talk, even though he also has the polish to publish for a mainstream paper? What's the need of preserving the eccentricities of speech when quoting someone? He said "popping" so you have to write "popping," but why misconjugate the verb too?

    2. Landry's assault isn't a good touch point. It looks quite possible that the assault was more or less random. He could have waited until an athlete was actually targeted. If he's right, it won't take long. The Landry incident also was not catalyzed by any stuntin', flossin' or poppin'.

    3. I feel unjustly maligned for not being outraged. White people are held at gun-point, car-jacked, burgled, even murdered everyday. I'm not outraged about that either. I'm not insensitive simply because the crime is black on black. Please don't insinuate I'm a racist, tia.

    4. And, if I was outraged, what am I supposed to do?

    5. There are probably still more black youth that idolize athletes than prey upon them. I think he makes way too much of this "shift." In fact, with the small handful of incidents he was able to name, I'd say these are actually simple aberrations. They might have a slightly higher chance of being victimized than someone else of their age and wealth simply because of their fame.

    6. I do think his Dr Harry Edwards makes a decent point about how the integration of middle-class whites into mainstream culture leaves lower-class blacks with a void.

I thought the same thing, guess he had to prove his street cred LOL

I would be interested to know what Landry's car looks like. Interesting that he talked about Sean Taylor, who everyone initially thought he brought his death upon himself, but later it turned out to be just as random.

I agree, its sad but these stories are so common now, Landry didn't die, therefore no story nationally

    exactly

funny, listening to a radio broadcast sunday they were talking about this subject about how the black middle class have left the black poor. it is an interesting theory as far as overall black crime is concerned. but I agree, it doesn't have anything to do with this story.

Oh god - please post more...that was great.

BTW...there was a mention of Landry being with a female in a news article about the incident. I don't really care who he was with, but I think the prostitute story is at least plausible.
