What did Dennis Rodman bring on offense?

    Sorry I beg to differ.
Playing Chuck for significant minutes will be far less harmful to your team than playing Novak significant minutes, who is a huge liability in far more ways than Chuck is.

Question? didn't we get to the playoffs last year with Chuck playing significant minutes?

how can you even compare chuck to novak? what kind of pictures or evidence does novak have on you? :)

R U serious, you are comparing one of the best rebounding and defensive players of all time to Chuck Hayes?

    I mean honestly....come on.....

Chuck is good enough to be a role player, but IMO, he is not good enough to be a significant role player or your team is not all that great to begin with...

Novak - pictures of me? Who squealed?

For the record i also think Chuck Hayes is the reincarnation of Bill Russel. I love his hustle and rebounding and his help defense. He sure as hell isn't afraid to go out there and smack someone.

Well, I defiantely disagree, but even if Chuck wasn't good enough to be a significant role player (funny how he started on our last year's playoff team), he's still a hell of a lot better player than Novak. STOP COMPARING THE TWO! There's no coach in the league who is going to tell you that Novak is better than Hayes, or even close to as good of a player as Hayes.

So Novak's blackmailing you? I totally understand. You've got to do what you've got to do :)

So far in this thread, Chuck Hayes has been called a great player, compared to Dennis Rodman, and also viewed as the modern day reincarnation of Bill Russel. Wow!

I see him as nothing more than a 3rd string player who justifiably got supplanted by two rookies last year. Basically, he's insurance in case anything happens to Scola or Landry. Now with the addition of Dorsey, he is expendable. If he is so valuable as many of you claim, how come no team out there has shown interest in acquiring his services? I do hope the Rockets can easily move him and get something decent in return, although I don't expect much.

    That doesn't answer my question.

I never said he was Dennis Rodman. I'm just saying it's quite possible to be valuable even if you can't do much on offense. And yes, even if you're an undersized power forward who doesn't block shots. That description fits both Rodman and Hayes. It's the truth. The end.

If the Rockets have 5 Chuck Hayes in the start lineup, the Rockets should have 3-peat the championships.

Unfortunately, the Rockets only have 1 Chuck Hayes, that's why the Rockets still couldnt get out of the 1st round in Yao & T-Mac era.

Adelman likes Hayes i remember him giving him prompts after a game for his effort and defense.

One thing is for sure though Chuckwagon sure knows how to strip the ball and get in peoples way.

Chuck stayed on the Rockets cause of his HUSTLE which is something any team can appreciate.

Individually, Chuck is a great guy with a big heart.

From the Rockets perspective, it's not what we need right now. He can't shoot free throws and he is no threat offensively which means our opponent doesn't need to guard him. And sorry, but OUR GOAL RIGHT NOW IS TO TAKE THE LOAD OFF OF TMAC AND YAO, not throw on another defender to our superstars.

I appreciate Chuck's D but I think we can definitely get a better alternative who can play decent D and at the same time have great offense.

    not at chuck's price.

ps - dorsey has not even played a single minute nba ball yet. his ft is just as terrible. how's dorsey alone make chuck expendable?

I was not trying to say that Novak is good. In fact, I don't think he belongs in the rotation either. I'm just trying to say that JVG, if he said that, was incorrect in that statement. The only reason Novak is even in the discussion is because I was responding to a post discussing him.

The reason Hayes can't stay ahead of Scola and Landry in the rotation is because his offense is not just bad, it's ATROCIOUS. Against good defensive teams, opponents kill us on offense between they can use 5 players to basically defend 4.

Heck, even if he has no range, if Hayes could only finish around the basket as well as Landry, I'd almost be willing to start him. But the guy is a 50% Lay-uper. That's just inexcusable.

Well as much as I love Hayes I'd trade him to the celtics for Sam I am. Yes Hayes is good but we are watching a couple Hayes clones in Landry and Scola with height. Now we also have dorsey who if we see some serious tanacity and bball iq and hustle then... yeah Hayes is not needed. Give Tom Thibadeau his Hayes back if he wants.

i don't get why a lot of people here keep on bashing the chuckwaggon. what's wrong with those guys? especially now that we have scola and landry who provide the offensive talents that are needed. chuck is one of the best post and help defenders at the 4. of course he has no offensive game besides slightly better than average passing and his great cutting to the basket. but who cares? it's not like he has to score for us to win. his job is to defend, to hustle, to rebound, to inspire. and he's perfectly fine at this. what else can you expect from your 3rd pf with about 15 minutes of playing time? chuck is one sensational role player and the people who are bashing him for what he can't do are just ignoring what he really can do. let them bash, they don't know basketball.
