First it's no handshake due to the swine flu, now this. Anyway it's going to be fun to see how they enforce this rule. You mean like no palming, or crab dribbling? Good luck.
y'all sure do know how to overreact. half the people are complaining they can never stand, completely ingoring the fact that it says it's ok if the players are cheering a play. and the other half are b****ing like it's going to completely ruin their nba experience to not see the occasional camera shot of players standing over on the bench. players standing obviously makes it essentially impossible to see from behind the bench (not that i've ever been able to afford those tickets) and making the players not stand for no reason seems to be quite a bit easier to implement than digging dugouts into the court or having fans, who are a foot shorter than the players, stand on their chairs to hope to see over the players. as for letting people know what they're getting into, that still doesn't stop some prime seats from being ruined for no real reason. stand when you cheer and then sit down, it's not that crazy of a request. as for standing being good for tall people, they're are numerous timeouts throughout a game where players can get up off the bench if they want to. it's not like they're nailed to their seat for 2.5 straight hours or something.
lol @ people complaining in this thread. What does it matter to you? Better for the fans, now they can sit near the court and actually be able to watch the game. Last year I wasted a lot of money getting tickets for a game behind the bench. The whole time your vision is obscured.
You KNOW the complaining doesn't have anything to do with this specific rule. It's just that it's more evidence that the nba is willing to bend over backwards for a very small percentage of casual fans because they make up a much higher percentage of their income. If the people that could afford to sit in those seats on any regular basis said they would like to see players in thong bikinis then Stern would get right on it.
Well, at least these people are at least making some effort to watch the game. Contrast those to the ones who sit a bit higher up (but great seats nonetheless) that spend all their time at the bar. Also, many times a business buys those seats and individuals who work for said business may get a chance to take in a game from a seat that they otherwise could not afford. Imagine how that would suck if you were one of these people and were taking your young child to their first b-ball game and spent the entire game looking at a very tall person's back. I know there are lots of rich people that sit in these courtside seats as well and that they care less about the game and more about being seen--but there ARE legitimate fans who get to sit in those seats every now and then.
