I agree with pmac; it is about time they finally implemented this rule. another take: rule is obviously being implemented for Lamar Odom... Stern is so ridiculosuly pro-lakers! it makes me sick.
If the players sit, will people behind the bench be able to see then? NBA players are still pretty dang tall, even in chairs. Instead of making the players sit to increase the value of the chairs behind them, they could just reduce the price of the obstructed-view seats.
Sooner or later me jumping off my couch at the end of a play is going to piss someone off at the NBA.
dont you think allowing players to stand up as much as they want would lead to unhappy fans and less ticket season holders up front? I dont see how that makes the game more popular..
I dont think that would work, the seats way up at the top are what, 20 bucks, and you can see there...so what would the obstructed view seats cost? 10-15 bucks? I dont think that would be fair since not all team/players do it. You'd have some arenas with 10-15 dollar front row seats and others with regular priced ones. Not to mention obstructed view seats would be worthless if players stand most of the time, it's not like a concert where you go to not only see, but hear the show...in basketball, if you can't see the game, then why even go?
I think the solution is even simpler. Don't change the price of the tickets at all, just force all of the teams to note, when selling those tickets, that they are PLAYER OBSTRUCTED VIEW tickets. For anyone buying single game ticket, they will know what they are getting. For anyone with season tickets, they already know what they're getting and can always not buy the season tickets. That said, complaining that this isn't currently a problem is kind of off base. Clearly, there are actual fans out there who decide to spend big every once in a while, and get "stuck" in a seat where they have to look at the in arena screen just to follow the action. Not because bench players are cheering on a great play or getting pumped for their teammates. But because they are standing till their team scores a point (as if there's ever been a game where a team doesn't score at all and taking your score from 0 to greater than zero points really means that much), or because they've decided they just want to stand. Seriously, even in an end of game situation, down by two, your team has the ball, in-bounding at half court, going for a three to win or a two to tie, and as a fan you can't see squat. I'd be upset, too. That said, as mentioned above, I think the solution is letting people know what they're buying instead of forcing the bench-players to not stand.
For sure. It needs to stop making new rules that appeal to the casual fan who has the money to sit in the expensive seats but cares not about the games.
Players should also crawl to the scorer's table to check in to the game, and then crawl to the bench when they're taken out. That is sarcastic, league.
How much money they pay a SINGLE player for a SINGLE game? Remodeling is almost nothing compared to how much they spend on salaries. Money is not a problem if they think that is a good solution to a problem. I think the only reason why they are not doing it is because they think having fans sitting right behind the teams is "good" for the atmosphere of the game. What they fail to see is that those who can afford the front seats are usually people who are NOT good for the atmosphere of the game because they are not real fans.
I HAVE A GOOD IDEA. Why don't the fans just stand up? Players stand up when their team makes an outstanding play. Fans just stand up at that moment, and then sit down when the bench players sit down.
There is no rule banning players from cheering an outstanding play though. It's when they just stand up and do nothing but look, that's banned.
Stand on your damn seat. I don't care. The NBA is turning into a ******* joke and mess of rules and regulations.
That won't work for most women and school kids. There's not even a chance, if they are sitting behind a 7 ft center.
It's easy enough to get around. When they stand up, they should cheer and celebrate. They gotta be cheering or they got to be chairing.
Good idea. But, I think "indian style" has now fallen out of favor. My daughter tells me that style of sitting is called "criss cross applesauce." I have mixed feelings on this name. It rhymes, but it's harder to use in a sentence. But, the PC gods have spoken through the mouth of a 4-year old, so I guess I'm stuck.
