Can't the fans sitting behind the player's bench just stand as well? Guess it's easy for me to say because I've never sat behind the players bench. I honestly don't like this rule though, but I do believe it's fair for those fans.
Fans pay a lot of money for those seats. I'm a short guy and even with me standing I would have a hard time seeing the court. I don't necessarily like this rule, but honestly fans do pay a lot of money to watch a game from that close and they shouldn't have their views obstructed by the players standing for long periods of time either; otherwise what's the point of putting seats in those areas?
As years passes, the Nba have been throwing in some ridiculous rules. Nba is Nba, it is still basketball and athletes have passion for it. I think players are allow to show their passion into the game like standing and cheering for their teammates or show their emotion after a powerful dunk.
I already agreed with that, I was just explaining the other side. We could go in circles for a while if you want.
This is dumb, if you don't want to be stuck behind the players, don't buy the tickets. I hope this rule is lenient and they let much of the standing slide, it's a part of the game.
This league is almost dead to me when the players can't get up and cheer one another. On a practical note, it is *very* good for your back to stand occasionally. A lot of tall people in general have back trouble, and that includes NBA people. Now make a bunch of them sit for most of the evening in folding crappy chairs made for people half their size... ugh, I'm just saying. There is a very practical (if minor) aspect to this, in terms of health.
I hate it. It's always a plus to see players hyped and into games. So dumb and meaningless. I would really like to know what the players think. I mean, c'mon, you can't stand and cheer at a sporting event?? The league needs to do anything as possible to make its game more popular. This would be considered a backward move.
You still better be allowed to celebrate big plays. Even if just momentarily. You mean to tell me the next time Carl Landry throws down a monster dunk our bench is just supposed to sit there and clap? Standing the whole time? Yeah, okay...I can see how that can become a problem. Just don't detract from the whole team sport/concept idea by restricting the ways players are allowed to cheer on their teammates.
I think this is a great rule. I have actually considered buying tickets behind one of the benches in the past, but decided not to because I wouldn't be able to see anything. What's the point in going to the game if you're just going to be watching on the screen anyway? And the article addresses the concern that many have expressed about players showing emotion on the sidelines. It says if you're part of an impromptu celebration, you can stand. That's fine. But there's no excuse for players to be blocking paying customers for half the game.
NBA is a For-Profit business. The most expensive seats in the house are blocked and those folks obviously complained. NBA responded with new rule. It's simple, really. No brainer.
I'm *SO* glad you brought this up. I'm a pretty tall guy, if you make me sit down for more than about 5-10 minutes at a time I get restless. My back starts to hurt and my knees ache. My butt also goes numb and my hips get tight. It is terrible for posture and doesn't lend itself to athletic behavior. At most conventions and seminars I go to for fitness professionals or athletes, the room may have 300 chairs, but over half of the people are standing around at any given time because it is the preferred position of their body. Sitting down is NOT a natural position for our bodies. Dumb rule, dumb league.
It says if your not in the game or in a celebration. I think when the guys jump off their chairs they are celebrating.
This is such a great rule. Although, I would take it one step further and ban ever standing on the sidelines, when players are subbed in they should bear crawl or roll until their entire body reaches the middle of the court. We need to make the experience better for those who pay those high prices to sit closer to the court. Some other suggestions. -Ban players from diving for loose balls near the sidelines. I mean, come on - Do you know how much beer is spilled on that silly play? -Ban standing while inbounding the ball. It's just easier if they sit on the floor and bounce pass it in.
