It's interesting to think about. If you want to go all out for Nene and have hopes of getting Dwight next year as well, it may make sense.

There's a chance he could fetch more than 6 million, because he's certainly worth more. Of course, if teams with cap space value Scola that much, you could always trade him for the cap space, thus circumventing the amnesty process.

I personally think a front court of Scola and Nene is lacking a bit in the defense and rebounding categories. Nene and Hayes may be a more effective combo. Also, Patterson has shown a lot of promise at the four and, in my opinion, Morris is a bit more PF than SF.

With all that said, I love Scola, and would be sad to see him gone. As you guys said earlier, it's going to be interesting to see how Morey handles this situation. It's definitely going to be an awesome couple weeks leading up to the season.

I don't think Scola will still be here in 2-3 years to get amnesty chopped. He's a valuable trade piece NOW. Cutting him would be a waste when the Rockets could receive young talent and/or draft picks in return via trade.

Probably, yes. My guess is that he can be traded either whenever players acquired via trade can be re-traded or whenever free agent signings can be traded.

READ: The Amnesty Rule Has A Wrinkle

Very interesting stuff from Cowbell Kingdom's James Ham. In short: Teams will bid for amnestied players. Here's a tidbit:

"A modified waiver process will be utilized for players waived pursuant to the Amnesty rule, under which teams with Room under the Cap can submit competing offers to assume some but not all of the player’s remaining contract. If a player’s contract is claimed in this manner, the remaining portion of the player’s salary will continue to be paid by the team that waived him."
