Almost as embarrassing as having every possession being a 1v1 ISO, with teams banned from playing help defense or the zone, to pad the statistics of star players at the expense of role players? Of course more emphasis was put on defense back then, with specialist role players who made their careers off of being able to defend a star player one on one. They didn't need to be offensive threats because the ball would wind up in the hands of a star player for an ISO, and their defender couldn't help off of them because that would be illegal. With the Zone, it pays a lot more to be a good three point shooter with limited defense than to be a stud perimeter defender with no offensive game (see: JJ Reddick vs Andre Roberson). You need shooters to spread out the defense now because they can help off of you and stop your star player. Does anybody remember the mid to late 2000s, where ISO ball still reigned and outside of a few teams (D'Antoni's Suns, SVG's Magic) nobody realized the importance of having a ton of shooters on the floor? All this WHILE the zone defense was legal and in high use? Games would get UGLY, and offense would become hard to watch. Does anybody remember the 2005 finals? That series went to a contested game 7 but the whole affair was BRUTAL to watch. You can say that Game 7 of the 2010 finals was a classic, but would it still be a classic if the teams were Orlando and Phoenix instead of Boston and Los Angeles?
I don't know what you're rambling about. Simply making an observation of All-Stars in that video with hands up, jumping for blocks etc and trying to stay in front of their man. Today is just a wide open dunk fest and wide open 3 pt shooting contest. It went from being a star studded pick up game to just shoot around pre game or stars messing around. It doesn't even resemble a game anymore. I guess you like watching these guys dunk their way to 60 points without breaking a sweat.
Oops, I thought you were referring to basketball in the 90s in general, not just the all-star game in particular.
Between Kevin Hart, Fergie, and the boring pace of this game, I might not make it past the 1st quarter.
For those that sat through the horrid 30 minutes or so before the game w/ Kevin Hart and then Fergie Let Marvin help clear that from your mind
How long do you actually watch these All-Star games really? I usually watch to see what they have at halftime.
