I superman'd a girl tonight. But anyways, here is a video of the dunk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TV-Ha-KwIMs
This picture is just great! If you look at it and just forget for a second that he is on a basketball court, he does look like superman flying off to save the world with mere mortals looking on from behind him! .....and one crazed paparazzi following him but just doing his job. Hell, even the cape seems to be flowing nicely like its windy or something. Luckily the Magic uniform colors are blue so the Superman suit doesn't look forced on. I just wish he came on the court with a pair of glasses on so no one would know it's Dwight Howard and would get ignored as Steve Urkel.... Then he should have stepped into one of these sitting at the center court before putting on the cape and the shirt!
I now realize that the reason he didnt touch the rim is because he would have broken the backboard. That is how hard he threw it down.
Look at this video at the 1:00 mark. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_m7tIfIkEM0 Dwight Howard doesnt always touch the rim on his dunks. He doesnt want to break it.
Hell, look at the first dunk on his practice sessions. He wants to throw the ball through, that's what he's being trying to do. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bIz7sYjp1Sc&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bIz7sYjp1Sc&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
I think throwing the ball through is a hell of a lot tougher than grabbing the rim. You folks who keep dissing Howard's dunk are ridiculous. It was a dunk, and it was impressive.
Exactly, even if it wasn't a dunk technically who cares? Had he missed it just a little bit, it would have rattled out so bad it would be obvious that he threw it. If he intended to dunk it (or should I say 'slam' it?), he would have seen that he is short and wouldn't have attempted it because that would take away the 'oohs' and 'aahs' when he did make it. The fact that he went through with it despite being noticeably short and the danger of having it not count if he missed it make me believe that he wanted to throw it down. And to those blaming Kenny, what has he got to do with this? He wasn't a judge. It certainly didn't seem like he influenced Magic's voting because he shared the same enthusiasm. So what if they called it a top 5 dunk ever? That was a 50 regardless.
The Superman Dunk really overshadowed his first dunk, which is top 5 of all time IMO. Dude's head was BEHIND the backboard when he pulled that off. Look at that dunk in slow mo. Save for Vince Carter 2000, I've not see a better dunk than that one. Also, I think his third dunk was also better than the Superman. Tapping it off the glass with your left and dunking it with your right? Are you kidding?
I don't know about that. Still a great showing but it would look even better if he slammed it in like he does his other dunks. The crowd would have went ballistic if it was one of those patented Dwight Howard power dunks.
Here's my take... ...I can dunk, but I can't throw the ball in like Dwight Howard did. I would think that it's more difficult. Plus, he's a two-footed jumper. To take off from that far away as a two-footed jumper is insane (two feel slows down your running momentum).
HOward was so creative!!!!! Though, I was disapoint with Gay and Moon!!!! Greeen, I wasnt excepting big.
The Superman dunk reminds me of the Keon Clark "dunk" on everyone's favorite poster boy, Shawn Bradley: <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3ALAf186lLA&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3ALAf186lLA&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> LOL, I just noticed that Kevin Harlan used the "He just sucked the gravity right out of the building!" line on this facial just like he did with T-mac's retirement dunk on Shawn.
Full or majority dunk contest incase you missed it: <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/VGbFmEPOkjo&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/VGbFmEPOkjo&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZtweGEg_2qo&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZtweGEg_2qo&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Althought I thought Dawkins throwing the shoes off the table was unnecessary, I could understand where he was coming from after watching the video. Gerald Green, a no-name signs his shoes and throws them on the table along with the marker. It was very disrespectful because of the way he did it and not only that, he didn't even make eye contact with the judges. So yeah, he deserved it.
So many haters... Howard's performance was one of the greatest of all time. The only way I could see him topping it is by raising the goal.
