Even Rudy's dunks weren't that great. His first has been done before. His 2nd dunk took a long ass time so that took much of the flare out of it. He should blame Pau for that one. I did think he got shafted on his scores though.
Is James White even in the league anymore? He's probably the best dunker in the world right now. Maybe we should open up to people outside the league. What about that guy from and1 who did that psuedo 720? ...and yeah, what's the point of even holding the dunk contest if we're just gonna give it to Nate Robinson for finishing regular ass dunks? Spudd Webb only won it once and he did better dunks...and he was shorter.
Would pay to see Lebron Dwight James White Josh Smith Gerald Green Iguodala D Wade Rudy Gay JR Smith Joe Alexander Then if they still have it Vince-anity Jason Richardson Kobe No more Midget
I think LeBron knows he's going to destroy the field if they keep needing 20 attempts to do everything. He's like boxer beating up on an old Arturo Gatti - he's going to look spectacular no matter what.
my ideal All-Star Saturday: Celebrity game: Michael Jordan and Dominique vs. Clyde Drexler and Isiah Thomas..(add in any celebrities you'd like, excluding all globetrotters and WNBA players) Three point contest: Ray Allen, Dirk, Nash, Brent Barry(call me a homer, but he is a perennial 40% 3pt shooter) and the top 2 3p FG% shooters of that year. 3 rounds instead of 2. Dunk contest: Lebron, Kobe, Dwight, A.I, Wade H.O.R.S.E. : I actually like Reggie Miller's idea, that since it's just shooting, "nothing taxing".. of making it a legends vs contemporary NBA shooters. Skills comp: PGs with the best TO/Ast ratio of that year I suppose.. apg average no lesser than 7..
All-Star Weekend is such a joke, from the lame events to the NBA's awkward insistence in including WNBA players in everything. When you have the best athletes in the world at your disposal, someone's not doing their job if half court shooting contests with has-beens and WNBA players is what you're coming up with. The 3 point shootout is fine. Scrap everything else. Lose the WNBAers and Globetrotters. Make a 1 on 1 competition, and also a 2 on 2 competition. And no, not with a WNBAer, David Stern. Make a real skills challenge with difficult dribbling drills, not lame ass chest passes and layups, so we can see who has the best handles in the league. And most importantly, find a way to convince the actual stars to enter the dunk contest. This modern day trend of using young role players just isn't doing it for me.
I don't know where White is. Someone should sign him before all-star break just to get him in this lol. The guy that did the 720, I forgot his name I haven't seen him lately. And 1 has really fallen off the last few years. Yeah man hopefully Nate doesn't come back next year but I got a feeling he will.
He's in the NBDL. I just watched him in the D-league all-star game. I was telling my brother to Youtube him at Cincinnati. He didn't believe me about the FT line two handed dunk he pulled off.
Man if Lebron enters they are going to hype the dunk contest up something serious. And then when it is all said and done I see LeBron disappointing a lot of people in the dunk contest.
should've just made that "my ideal All-Star weekend pre-All-Star game".. and I'd include Vince in the dunk contest list..
it was. and the highlight of the night was...uh...derrick rose's high-risk double pump reverse dunk to win the skills competition?
I think the use of his left arm was more for protection than the facilitation of the elevation. VC also did that with his left hand (no knock at all on VC though).
This thing was such a joke. I'm so disappointed... Dwight sucked. His attempt to dunk from the FT line sucked. The off the side of the backboard has already been done. Nate Robinson sucked. Cool, jumping off someones back? Fernandez didn't deserve to be in there. J.R. Smith was snubbed. The best dunk of the night was Derrick Rose at the end of the skills challenge. Oh yea, and PLEASE get rid of the stupid Haier shooting stars.
Skills competition: Was glad to see Rose win it. His dunk at the end was an awesome exclamation point. I will say Mo Williams got screwed in the first round though with that dumbass getting in way during the bounce pass drill. That clearly cost him a second or two. In this type of "competition" one second is like an eternity. Three Point Shootout: Good for Daequan Cook. You can add his name to the list of players from the 2007 Draft that are better than Mike Conley. Dunk Contest: Honestly, thought it was kind of lame. JR and Fernandez didn't really impress me. Definitely would have loved to see Joe Alexander in there instead of either of those guys. Dwight's 12-foot dunk could have been sooooo much better than it was. He made it look so effortless -- he couldn't have threw a 360 in there or something? Nate's Frederic Weis dunk over Dwight was a great way to end the night. Overall, Nate deserved it and finished it off with an impressive dunk. I just think the competition was rather lackluster compared to some of the past. Great to hear LeBron declaring his intentions to enter the competition next year. That will definitely spice things up.
Booooooooring! I only watched the highlights on ESPN and I was still bored. They need to cut this down to the basics.
This All-Star Saturday was pretty boring. I'd like to see a 1 on 1 sort of deal as well, maybe a 2 on 2. The Shooting Star thing is lame, and they need to increase the difficulty of the Skills Challenge. I really don't think making layups and easy passes is really proving anything.
Agreed 158%. ONLY reason he won that was because of his height IMO. Howard should have won it looking at it on an overall basis, not just the finals round as well. Robinson performed seemingly average dunks. I would have enjoyed seeing Howard & Fernandez in the finals. I felt the slam dunk competition might have been fixed as well. .02
