OK so I have a friend who dominates with the '98 Lakers team and when we play I'm having difficulty neutralizing Shaq and Kobe (Big surprise huh). Any defensive recommendations? I'm trying to use the '94 Rockets against him, however Hakeem's speed advantage and better footwork is not matching up well against the size and power of Shaq. I can't stop his dunks even when I time the blocks well. Additionally, the entire team seems to always pass the ball down court and get Kobe in dunking condition multiple times a game. Are there any ways to slow this down and prevent fast break slams? I'm considering putting the '94 Knicks on them with Ewing, however I'd rather beat him with my favorite team. Any ideas on how to best Shaq and Kobe?
If Vernon Maxwell can't hold Kobe...no one can. *Waiting for tinman's response of how he can shut anyone down in 3...2..1..*
Additionally, when I play, I try to go hard on defense with the stars, playing them tight on the ball and when off ball trying to deny the ball. I then try to bait the other player into using lesser players by doing this. Still, when the ball gets to Shaq it is almost impossible when he heats up. Perhaps I'm not using enough footwork to prevent him from getting to dunk position, however he just pushes anyone out of his way, including Hakeem. As for Kobe, he has to heat up on the three line, but even if he is cold, his dunks are so high that they go over all of the defenders. Anyone particularly good at this game have some tips? Additionally, good matchup ideas to slow a fast break team down?
^^ Won't work cause a good user can hit 80% with any player in the game. There's really no solution other than trying double-teams on Shaq and putting a bigger guy on Kobe.
2k favours dominant players over actual strategy. Rockets have one, but the Lakers have two who are better known. It's impossible, especially considering your friend seems pretty good.
Turn help defense up on your C.P., Double on drives for Kobe, and go for steals when Shaq has it down low. You won't stop them, but it's a worthwhile approach.
IMO Maxwell's D is highly underrated in that game and so I may have to switch him with Horry for more height to stop the dunk.
We are about ever at this point... he has better guard ability, but I have much better use of shot stick and post moves (which is why I prefer Hakeem)
I like this advice. I usually play a "1-3-1" zone whenever I play against some friends. If you constantly switch up the zones on them, you'll likely confuse them every now and then.
thats Odd.. I always dominate my brother with the Dream Rockets over the Shaq Lakers.. Dream is damn near unstoppable in that game.. Jordan is simply insane in that game btw..
