Just played my first Combine game. I was never good at the precise controls, and, lol, playing with the keyboard doesn't help. I tried out the dribbling drill, and didn't even get past the first cone as I had no idea which buttons I had to press. For some reason it just doesn't translate well from the press of a button to the screen. One thing that was slightly strange was that when I was running the fast break at full sprint, I used the shot stick and somehow gave me a fadeaway in the post on the fast break  But overall, not too bad, looks more 'real' than NBa 2k10, or that might just be my imagination.

Exactly. I think I'll probably get a pirated copy of it for the pc or something once it's out.

I mean seriously, releasing it in April probably will mean the 2012 version will have almost no upgrades outside of rosters due to the lack of time. Unless they're planning on releasing it in April every year from here on out, which means they might as well ditch the whole NBA game all together.

As for eMat and Drexlerfan22, I totally get what you're saying. It gets annoying sometimes but I guess I haven't been paying too close of attention like you two have. I'm too focused on my scoring PG that I created who is pretty much money from anywhere inside the halfcourt line on HOF mode.

I do, however, share your views on players "skating" around the floor. I press to move an inch and the player literally jumps 3 yards in that direction on defense.

I've experienced all of what Drexlerfan22 added.

But hmm... Me and Drexlerfan22 both have it for the PC. Could it be a case of a lousy port?

I've experienced them at times too. Game is fun for a little while, but when it comes to be addicting....it certainly isn't.

I'm new to the 2K series as I have always had the more arcade like Live games. 2K is vastly superior. I love this year's 2K game but I am still having a hard time getting to the paint and driving the lane. It seems like the CPU defender locks on no matter how fancy my dribbling skills are. Is the game really just that difficult or am I just terrible? lol :)

You might go into the sliders and lower the On-ball Defense and Drive Contact sliders. Believe me, it doesn't make the game any easier, but it allows you to be able to at least make some iso-moves and get to the interior of the defense when warranted.

If you're on the 360, go onto 2K Share and search for a slider set called "JT and DereckM" They have both a Pro and All-star version of their sliders which focus around allowing more freedom of movement. They're pretty good sliders. I just lost to the Clippers as the Rockets using the All-star set.

How come 70% of the time I try to run a pick and roll, the player who sets the pick stops running towards the basket too early? This is so annoying because if they kept going to basket they would be wide open, but instead they either just stop or run left/right into more defenders. Makes me rage.

stop cheesing the pick and roll...lol.....I use to abuse it every possession in 2k8 and they toned it down because it was so abused, hasn't been nearly as effective since 2k8

you have to change it up, do a pick and roll one possession, than do a pump fake 3, than take it strong inside, just don't abuse one thing

So I've been playing NBA 2K for a decade and still manage to win on HoF this year, but I "have no idea what I'm doing?"

    Yeeeeaaaahhhh... that makes sense.

I actually have it for PS3. I was just commenting on PC ports and PS3 controllers in general.

Coincidentally, some Sixaxis/DS3 drivers were recently certified:
    http://www.motioninjoy.com/blog/have-got-microsoft-code-signing-certification
I haven't tried it, but it should allow you to use the PS3 controller for the PC. It worked before, but since it wasn't certified, you had to do a little more work to get it working.

As for the whole controls/animation stuff, I've kind of had issues with it too. I've learned to just deal with it over time, but I think it could definitely use some work. I haven't had some of the serious issues you guys have had though (posting up, guys not getting open on inbounds, etc.), but certainly have had animations that I didn't want. Sometimes, I chalk that up to the gameplay being "realistic" maybe. For example, in a recent game, I was on defense guarding my man (without the ball). Ballhandler drives, sort of close to my man. I was trying to stick to my man (didn't really need to help on the drive), but my player ended up switching to the ballhander and fouling him. Could just be that my defensive awareness sucks. Players can generally get around me from time to time pretty easily, which I guess makes sense (while I should have most of the influence on my player's defense, obviously I shouldn't be locking down Kobe Bryant with a <50 rating on defense).

I've had other problems with the game which I think are more bug/lack of polish related. The movement/animation stuff seems more like a conscious design decision, although I'm not sure of the thinking behind it. Wouldn't say the game is terrible (better than 2K10), but definitely from the "best sports game of the generation" or whatever.

It has actually been a while since I played 2K9. Should probably give it a shot and compare controls again just to refresh my memory.

It probably depends on the ballhander and the defender, but I'm guessing that most of the time, fancy dribbling won't really work all that well all the time. You'd have to use picks, ball movement, mismatches, etc., to get into the paint for an easy score. Just like real basketball.

Seriously dude, you sound like me.

I wasn't gonna get it based on the demo, then I was like "look, it got glowing reviews. I'll pick it up, I probably just wasn't used to the controls or something."

And I played it. And I played it some more. And I was sure I must be missing something.

Then I stuck 2K9 in, and it was like "wow, the players no longer have ice skates on."

Just finished rookie year in my player mode, won the title with the hornets. Averaged 30 pts in the season and 39 in the playoffs, won finals mvp after sweeping every round in the playoffs.

First you get a billboard, then cover of si, something else I forget, then shoes.

Athletic SG, spend all your points on the mid-range shot, speed, and shot off the dribble, first. Drive, cross, mid range jumper.

After you fill those up go with quickness and handles. I shot like 65% fg for the year, this is my formula for getting good quick in my player mode.

Also, only do shooting drills your rookie year.

I must say that the CPU teams are pretty realistic in 2K11. I'm in my 2nd season in My Player (just started).

the Heat won the championship over the Spurs.

I looked at the rosters and Aaron Brooks signed with the Grizzlies, and Yao Ming is injured again for 4-6 months with a torn ACL.

There are just so many things to do in this game. I have played almost exclusively My Player since I got the game. I have barely gone online, barely touched the crew stuff, only did 2/10 Jordan challenges, and haven't even looked at The Association.

I also almost joined an online league but I decided not to because it would then take away from my My Player time (my time is limited, lol)

Look out for the next update coming out on opening day. Brooks and Martin will have MAJOR upgrades their shooting animations and the Ish will be on the team finally. Hopefully they update Courtney Lee like I said too. Can't wait to test the new shots. It's gonna be lights out online.
