It overtook Halo Reach on the Amazon sales rankings. Which are pretty much pointless from a sales perspective. That statement might be a bit misleading without realizing what was being measured. You could also just ask people who have played the game on the PC. I wouldn't call it a bad port. When I think of a bad port, I think of missing features or bad performance. There isn't really much missing in the PC version. Menus are reused from 2K10 (whatever), but I think everything else is the same. My Player, Association, Jordan Challenges, soundtrack, etc., match up with the console versions AFAIK (I can double-check if anyone is curious). Online might be borked (not sure), which 2K seems to do every year, but I don't really pay much attention to that anyway (besides, I think even the console versions have issues there). As for performance, I'm playing the game at 1080p (well actually 2048x1152 since my screen resolution is weird) at 120 FPS+. And that's with most/all the graphics effects on their highest settings (probably better than console versions), and 8x AA. I don't even have that great of a gaming PC either. PC version looks and performs much better than the console version. Now 2K does seem to ignore the version quite a bit, hence the long delays in patches last year for 2K10 (probably will happen with 2K11 too). No doubt that the PC version is their lowest priority. Wish they'd do better here, but at $20-$30, not a bad price to pay unless the game is just broken...kind of like 2K10. Of course, I'm ignoring all the mods and stuff that the PC community adds (see the Youtube link a bit earlier with all the retro teams from 2K10...which can probably be done in 2K11 pretty easily since I think that stuff is "easily" ported). Based on 2K9, 2K10, and the little bit of 2K11, I'd easily recommend the PC version over the console versions, unless you're more of a online gamer. Though even that might be debatable. I spend more time on My Player and Association game modes, so the decision is pretty easy for me. Especially given the much cheaper price. That said, I'm still bothered by the behind the back/spin move thing I mentioned earlier. Still not sure if that is a PC issue, or just something wrong with me. Some are good, some aren't so good. Last gen, we had PS2 ports that seemed to perform poorly on systems an order of a magnitude more powerful than a PS2. I don't think we see that as much this generation, although there certainly are still a few bad PC ports.
Hey, i'm with you. i'm a full time PC gamer, and got it for 360, and was planning on getting it on my PC. When i told them that, they said the console. I mean i trust you know your game on PC, but I also trust them cause they worked on all the gameplay animations and tested on all platforms. I know everyone has their own opinions and perspective, but thats where I was coming from.
Perhaps if they gave some specifics, I could maybe see what they mean ( maybe they were trashing the online mode...which is probably valid). But what they've said doesn't really jive well with the actual game. There are plenty of PC ports I would stay away from, but NBA 2K11 isn't one of them. Maybe they were just trying to push sales of the console versions. After all, definitely don't want people only paying $30 instead of $60. Partly why they are so late in announcing it for Steam. A lot of people on the fence decided to get the console version when it seemed like the game wouldn't show up on Steam. Though I will admit that apparently the shadowing is a bit inferior on the PC version for some reason (at least compared to the 360 version). But there's already a mod that fixes it. Think it probably looks better than the console version.
I'm a big online gamer. Last year I decided to get the PC version of 2K10 because there was a Steam sale going on. I didn't play it at all. The game itself was fine but I just could not get into it. It didn't help that the online play didn't even work (blame 2K) so I gave up on trying to play it. In all honesty it was a wasted 13 bucks. I am not a PC gamer at all, I vastly prefer consoles.
Yeah i get what you're saying, and ill ask for specifics why. And I doubt they're trying to push sales on me, since its family thats telling me. But in the end, we all enjoy the game, and thats what matters the most.
Sports games have never 'felt' right to me on the PC, and I've tried a lot of them starting with, IIRC NBA Live 98 or 99. Really one of the few genres I just have no interest in on the pc side. *shrug* Often they are poorly supported, have bad ports, bad online, or some other issue. Just my experience.
I assume it's the fact that consoles are more user-friendly. For PC games you have to install, get a controller, fiddle with the settings, adjust etc. etc. On consoles you pretty much put the disk in and play.
Might get this game today, I heard the controls are tough to master if you haven't played 2k before. Is that true?
In general, there's nothing to fiddle with. I purchased an xbox360 because it is automatically recognized by windows 7, and many games have the support for them built right into it. One bad thing about not being able to "fiddle" with the controls on consoles is many don't let you change the buttons. I like to set the controls how i like em.
I haven't tried it on 2k11 yet, but I turned those off on 2k10 in the presentation section of the options IIRC.
Yes. Simulation lowers your shot success and increases amount of fouls. Basically makes the game more boring (but realistic).
I am having a pretty good myplayer game on HOF with simulation... It's tough to get stops sometimes though...
If you want to play MJ creating a legend mode without doing any of the challenges today is your lucky day. Heres the code icanbe23. Now show me some rep love.
I got this on PS3 about a week ago (1 day after release) and have never bought 2k game before (9.5 IGN rating won me over, plus elite demo sucked balls!) I'm still learning alot but alot of it is very intuitive and I have improved dramatically (playing for few hours almost everyday). I recently cranked up the difficulty from Pro to All-Star and am fairly comfortable here but there's still alot for me to learn, it has been a fun challenge though. I've only ever played Live 05, Live 07 and Live 08 before this and I used to dominate CPU on Superstar mode so it has been a very humbling experience for me, but I am enjoying relearning how to play the basketball game. To answer your question, the controls have been tough to learn, but its been a fun experience and I look forward to improving my skills as I progress, hopefully to be able to beat HOF on simulation mode one day... lol, only playing MyPlayer and NBA challenges thus far, haven't started association mode yet (not enough time in the day!) but like others I think I'll get that going when the season starts. - GET THIS GAME -
true that. i am playing 2k11 this year for the first time. im playing the myplayer mode. it is TOUGH to score when your players sucks! i requested a trade to the rockets and it traded me to the jazz!
