The family that owns the New York Times was Jewish. This is ridiculous.

So would you say if Haaretz wrote an article in 2016 that was critical of the incoming Trump administration they are anti-American?

Clearly, DeSantis (or any politician) can't control who supports them or comes to their events. What they can do is distance themselves from nefarious groups and condemn their actions. Kind of surprising that someone who sees random COVID tweets from random people, didn't see anything about this on the news in the state they live in. This was also on the national news.

Depends on the wider context. A single article certainly doesn't suffice to make that assumption. I posted links about the NYT's history of anti-Israel publications, including an anti-semitic cartoon they had to apologize for.

    https://www.cnn.com/2019/05/01/media/new-york-times-anti-semitic-cartoon/index.html

The result was an image of a Netanyahu as a dog on a leash, Star of David around his neck, held by a blind Trump wearing sunglasses and a yarmulke.

Antunes told CNN that he does not believe the image evoked hateful anti-Jewish stereotypes in any way. But numerous journalists and activists said it was reminiscent of Nazi propaganda. Jonathan Greenblatt, the CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, said on CNN that the cartoon exhibited “stereotypes that suggest Jewish control.”

“It wouldn’t surprise me if this was published out of Tehran or Damascus, but it does not belong in The New York Times or any credible media outlet,” he said.

    You mean this?

    https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/31/politics/ron-desantis-anti-semitic-protests/index.html

DeSantis referred to the demonstrators as “some jackass doing this on the street.”

A video with 267,000 views posted to Twitter on Saturday supposedly captured the demonstrators fighting a man in the roadway.

DeSantis said state law enforcement will “hold them accountable” because the individuals involved had hung flags on the fence of a highway overpass, which is a violation of Florida law.

“They’re absolutely going to do that and they should do that,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis said his administration has a proven track record of supporting the Jewish people, including signing legislation to address antisemitism, “record funding” for Jewish day schools, punishing companies that boycott Israel and strengthening economic ties with Israel.

“I’m not going to have people try to smear me that belong to a political party that has elevated antisemites to the halls of Congress, like (US Rep.) Ilhan Omar, that have played footsie with the (boycott Israel) movement,” he said.

Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, apologized in 2019 after she had been accused of using antisemetic tropes in public statements she had made criticizing the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a pro-Israel lobbying organization.

We all know that the "condemn extremist people who say they support you" game is one that is played by the political opponent (of either side) all the time. It's designed to put the other person into a "cannot win" position. "Qui s'excuse s'accuse" - if you defend yourself by distancing yourself from the worst of the worst, what gets stuck in people's minds anyway is that you are somehow associated with them.

Any PR advisor would tell you to not fall into that trap, and to both ignore those people and the demands by your political opponents to distance yourself from them.

That's the only reason DeSantis ignores that, not because he wants their endorsement or supports them.

    It should be obvious.

    And people complain about wokism.

We're talking about the New York Times - a paper owned by a Jewish family. Most of the people I know who work or have worked there are Jewish. Strange accusation.

    Done what?

Have a crossword puzzle that can be construed as a swastika if you look really hard?

Are we also checking on other crossword puzzles?

And we are talking about over 300 crossword puzzles a year, and this is the 3rd time out of how many years?

What is the actual issue supposed to be here anyway?

Outside of Europe and N America, the entire world sees it differently. it's an ancient symbol meaning peace and Hitler shouldn't be able to appropriate and twist it for his awful purposes. It's like if Asian branded the cross as a hate symbol. I get that many people can't get over its association with Nazism, but they should be aware that billions of people before and after Hitler don't see it as a hate symbol and quite the opposite actually.
