If there are doubts to basso's intent with an off-color (oh, har har! B-Bob too is funny!) thread title, after his history on this BBS, I suggest you do a brief search of how the French media covered Rush Limbaugh's playing of the disgusting "Barack the Magic Negro" song. I found many hits very quickly where the term in translation was "le noir magique." I don't know French, but the French do, I assume. Okay, please resume previously scheduled senseless linguistic defense of unnecessary thread titles for which we are all a little worse off. Thank you.
If basso didn't mean for his French to be taken both ways, why doesn't he provide the way that he would accurately translate Magic Negro into French?
i have never listened to limbaugh, hannity, o'reilly, or, for that matter, any of the kooks on msnbc and air america.
Quick and random lesson in French...I'll keep it short and simple. à means to. a is one of the verbs from the Indicatif Présent of avoir, one of the basic verbs in French. Simply translated, it means has. In french, a lack of accents is the difference between looking r****ded and proficient much like a lack of knowing when to capitalize in english. makes you look kinda stupid like chad johnson on speed or KEVIN GARNETT ON ROIDS.
High school French, so I already know this basic stuff; but Basso didn't mean to use "has," especially if it's a "loose interpretation." But I'll concede you know more about French than I do.
Eh, Basso doesn't know what he's toying with. It just happens that one of my cherished pet peeves include people using French (in an effort to seem smarter I guess) but totally failing at it, so I'm kinda being a b**ch on this XD.
so basso compares obama who's been in office for two and a half months to bush's immediate out pouring of support after 9-11. Obama has to clean up after 8 years of cowboy diplomacy and after his first trip over seas trying to REBUILD support for a SEVEN YEAR OLD WAR, declares him a failure.
