Obviously fans are passionate about teams. In professional sports there is a marketing incentive to keep names as we all know. Branding is really important to businesses and unfortunately for Native Americans they're just so small in population that teams feel they don't have to address the issues.

IMO fans will adjust its not that big of a deal in the long run for someone like Dan Snyder to have been so opposed to changing the name. Team history does play a role in attracting new fans. Owners like their teams to go up in value and the history is a big piece of the value. For the owners it's purely a financial issue

I live in NM near the Mescalero Rez and I'm headed over to the Inn of the Mountain Gods today at lunch to pick up the NCAA and NFL betting sheets so I can do my weekly sports wagering.

I've had a few conversations with Mescalero's at the casino and in local eating and drinking establishments, and their feedback seems to mirror what you've said. Most were glad the Redskins name was changed and felt the stereotypical and cartoonish depictions to be offensive. Some are Chiefs fans which they didn't find offensive. Local Ruidoso Middle and HS team names are the Braves and Warriors respectively.

Hope the case is dismissed with prejudice, because this is ridiculous. Go ahead and fine the attorneys who brought such a stupid law suit to a court.

    Good.

It's a shame the NFL is so poor that they can't settle this out of court.
