I think the actual question is why isn't he playing everyday against right handers (which would be 75-80% of the time). It was reasonable to keep Burke in the lineup and give him his at bats where he didn't have to worry about being "benched". Now that it's crunch time, you've got to go with the guys that are consistently getting it done.
NYTimes had a big piece over the week-end, WSJ around ASG. Clemens gets lots of pub. But -- who's on 3rd for 'stros? How many 'outside the loop' could answer that one?
You could go to the ESPN web site and check that out. At his current pace, he probably won't make it until early 2007. There is no need for the national media to chronicle/publicize his climb to 3000 until late (or after) next season.
My thoughts exactly! Garner is all about percentages, but how can he keep looking for Lamb to hit when he's flat out not producing, and Berkman is a much better first baseman.
They need to win 2night...and then continue winning...The WC race is so close and honestly, the Stros' can win it...
Before Tuesday night, Mike Lamb had 5 HRs in his last 13 games. At least that's what the scoreboard said.
Actually, I think a lot of ppl can answer that now. Morgan got so much pub at the all star break. Couldn't hit ESPN or espn.com without hearing/seeing that he was the biggest snub on either side. Seen at least a couple of minor things on him since. I think since that snub, ppl are realizing what a good year he's had a lot more than some of us realize
Well, he has 7 total HRs... that's not very impressive. Much less the rest of his statistics... http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/stats/sortable_player_stats.jsp?c_id=hou
Of course, most managers prefer to look past a half-season worth of stats when making judgements about players.
Jason Lane and Orlando Palmero are SO hot right now. Orlando Palmero should be in the lineup everytime a right-handed pitcher is going. For the year he's hitting vs Right-handed Pitchers .362 AVG .397 OBP .565 SLG After All-Star Break against everyone .397 AVG .429 OBP .552 SLG Jason Lane after the all-star break is .359 AVG .388 OBP .625 SLG Both of these guys should see about 80% of the playing time until they cool-off with Burke and Lamb being the top bats off the bench.
Wrath, I see your point and I do agree with that they have been mentioned, but the point I wanted to stress is that the coverage for them is nowhere where it should be. Can you honestly tell me the national media has talked about the stros half as much as they have talked about the A's.
I have no idea if they’re mentioned as often as the A’s because I don’t really pay attention to A’s coverage. (However, I'd venture to guess that they're getting more than half the coverage.) Your first post said the Stros get “no pub from the media.” That’s definitely been true in the past, but myself and other posters pointed out it’s far from true this year (coverage about our turnaround, stories about the Ensberg All-Star snub, daily articles about Clemens’ season, etc.). So now you’re asking if the Stros are mentioned as much as the A’s. I don’t know, but that wasn’t your first point and it has nothing to do with whether or not the Stros are getting national press. (As to your new point, I think the amount of press the Stros are getting is where it should be. Personally, I'd rather we sneak up on people in October than have a bulls-eye on our heads after being over-hyped all summer.)
Anyone know what our rotation order is? I want to go to a game this weekend/early next week, but I don't really want to be at a Zeke/Wandy game. I haven't seen Clemens yet, does he pitch next? Games I'm looking to go to are Sunday and/or Monday. I might go to Sat's game, but not sure.
The rotation is the same as it's been for a while now: Pettitte Oswalt Clemens Astacio Rodriguez Recently, Garner has kept the rotation in tact over off days, but that is subject to change as the season wears on.
Why wouldn't you want to go to a Zeke or Wandy pitched game. That's your best chance to catch a homer.
Cool thanks, I wasn't sure if Clemens or Oswalt was right after Petitte. I've seen Oswalt pitch 98% of the games I go to, and was hoping to see Clemens. This works out perfectly.
