Wow, way to make up for the miscue earlier. I don't like seeing Berkman dive headfirst into first though while he's on offense, much less defense.
Not so lights out tonight for Lidge. Get this last out Lidge! 7-6. 2 on, 2 outs, 29pitches so far for LIDGE. Take him out, he is having HUGE command problems! This is getting scary!
This may be the first time I've ever been nervous during a Lidge save attempt. EDIT: I don't think Lidge has it tonight... perhaps bring in Burns.
Lidge just wanted to give Washington another 1 inning loss. Frankly, that's twice this year he's let them back into the game in his saves... we need to blow them out tommorow (Lidge is probably not available anyways).
Whew. Can someone explain to me why Palmero is not playing every single day? Put Berkman at first, sit Lamb, and play Tavarez, Lane and Palmero in the outfield with Burke as the sub for OF and 2b. DD
It's amazing when you're reduced to one pitch, even if it is a 90+ mph fastball, what ML hitters can do. Brad's money pitch is his slider....when he can't locate that, it can get interesting.
I agree, he's been great all season, we should stick with him. I'd rather hace Lane than Lamb as well.
I think Palmero has proven over his career that he is a role player and not suited for everyday play. I agree this guy has been nothing short of great for the stros on offense and as a defensive replacement as well. Anyway, was at the game tonite, we need to get that place going again. Hopefully the bats will get going again and we can get on another roll. sunday's victory against the giants showed me a lot about the heart of this team. They will not give up. On a completely different note, is it interesting that the Astros get no pub from the media. Could you imagine if one of the new york teams had gone 36-10 a year ago and then went 42-18 over 60 games during the reg season. They would all over the place, on the cover of SI, etc. We dont even get a mention in any of these publications. Thats ok, Keep giving the A's all the attention and hopefully the astros will just keep winning.
OP is having a great stretch lately, but he can't hit leftys....platoon player all the way. 2005: vs. RHP .351, vs. LHP .158. 2004: vs. RHP .248, vs. LHP .167.
I question Frank Robinson's late game management but I am not complaining. Bringing in a hurting Guillen who has not seen live pitching in a long while for a warm body like Preston who is likely to get a needed hit there for them beats me. Even though Preston has struggled, he still had a better chance of hitting Lidge's fastball and slider than Jose. In 5 ABs, Preston has one hit against Lidge and that hit was 2-run homer (only 1 K) while Jose is 0-4 lifetime (before today's game) against Brad (3 strike outs). Oh well - good for us. Now take the rubber game.
Huh? They were complete media darlings around the All Star Break. You couldn't read a baseball article in the sports section of any website (SI.com, ESPN.com, MSNBC.com) without someone writing about how the Stros were the team to beat for the Wild Card -- and this was when we were behind the Gnats. Plus, the guys on Baseball Tonight talked about the Stros all the time. Oh, and the "Inside Baseball" section of this week's SI features Ensberg and Berkman. I usually agree about the media bias, but I don't think it applies here.
