We were winning in spite of Burke, not because of him. He's terrible. I agree on keeping Lane in the lineup ahead of Lamb, but Palmeiro should see the majority of starts over Burke. The numbers aren't even close. My question is why Lamb and Palmeiro have to play together. Garner never starts one without the other. While having a lefty stick is an advantage, Lane's having a very solid season and has been hot recently. I'd like to get him as much playing time now as we could to ride that streak. My ideal lineup would be Berkman at first, Lane in right and Palmeiro in left... but Garner has never tried that combination.
I'm too lazy to ever bring specific numbers into any argument, but I disagree. Burke, at first, was hurting us with his bat. But lately he's turned it around and has been having great AB's. Add that to the fact that he's becoming more than an average OF'er (defensively), I think he deserves more of a shot than Lamb.
I like your ideal lineup. You could put Palmeiro behind Morgan in the lineup followed by Lane to make sure they pitch to Morgan. Plus you would still have a lefty to PH in Lamb if you need him. Why Garner never tries this lineup is beyond me.
Phil needs to have a quick hook with Wandy tonight.....his location is way off and his body language says he's just frustrated (another great thing about the big three is that they never appear flustered). To give back the lead after losing last night and having a big 1st inning could be very discouraging. At least Biggio seems to be coming out of his mini-slump.....we've got to have him hitting before the big 2 in our lineup come up.
That 3rd inning looked a lot better for Wandy, hopefully he keeps it up and gives the team at least 5 innings
Giving up a HR to the opposing pitcher is inexcusable, no matter who it is. My guess is Wandy's night is over
haha, sorry about that Nick. I saw the Burke post and replied before I took a glance at the rest of the page. Burke hit .238 in April, .244 in June, .244 in July and .188 in August. He's actually been one of the most consistent players on our team; sadly, it's just been consistently bad. He's had a few good series against the weak pitching rotations of the Rockies, Pirates and Giants of the world, but he's been consistently overmatched against solid major league pitching. That said, I'll agree that Lamb hasn't been much better. But he does have a little more power, and he does have the advantage of being a lefty. imo, using Lamb against the righties and Burke against lefties is a good call... but neither should see that much playing time overall. Lane and Palmeiro should both be starting a little more than they are.
Is it really Horry?... because on the radio, Ashby said "Will Smith in the crowd tonight." (no joke).
No, it's "Big shot Bob" not Will Smith, although they do look similar. Nice two out double by Biggio, CLUTCH
