we have been getting some absolutely horrendous called strike 3's lately. there is no way in hell that's a strike if there is anything other than 2 strikes in the count. and definitely not if wandy is the pitcher. edit: and strike 1 to lamb may have been worse. edit edit: now strike 1 to palmeiro. is eric gregg working this effing game?
YES!!!! we get a big hit w/ RISP finally. livan should be embarrassed to give up 4 runs with this strike zone. i think i could get a quality start.
Anybody else notice how both Morgan and Craig told Lamb that he didn't have to slide (by holding their hands up), and yet he slid anyways... maybe Lamb is dyslexic (and that explains why he's a great pinch-hitter, but can't hit when given ample opportunities).
Why do Lamb and Palmiero continue to get starts? We were doing great with Lane/Burke as the everyday outfielders and Lamb/Palmiero PH'ing..
Were they not the every day outfielders during our big run? It seems like everytime I watch the Astros now, Lamb or Palmiero are starting, or both. Unless I missed something big.. EDIT: Yeah I know both had big hits tonight, but it was just a general question.
Yea... I was just questioning the timing (probably would have been better off posting this last night). Garner said before the all-star break that both these guys would be seeing more starts, especially since Lance's knee was well-enough to play in the OF. For now, it seems like Burke/Lane get starts against all lefties and marginal right-handers (like Ryan Drese tommorow)... but Lamb/Palmeiro get the starts agains the quality right-handers. They actually have probably been about the same (wins-wise) when either tandem plays... and I don't recall a situation where not having a lefty-stick to pinch-hit has really cost them (although you're right... it would be nice to have those guys rather than Lane/Burke to pinch hit).
You would think Lane would start tonight after the 0-5 Lamb put up yesterday not to mention the 2 double plays he hit into. He did get a nice bloop hit to keep the rally going. You're right about the young guys playing more often during the run, but when ever Garner thinks a game really counts he yanks Lane and Burke in favor of the vetrans. I'm sure the fact that both Lamb and Palmiero can hit from the left side has something to do with starting them tonight.
Before the last road trip, we won nearly every game (minus the St. Louis sweep), and Lamb/Palmeiro played just as much as Lane/Burke. To say that Lane/Burke played the majority throughout our "big run" isn't exactly accurate. I think Lane doesn't deserve to be benched as much, and Palmeiro deserves to start more... but for some reason, Garner refuses to break up the pairs (as if they're some set tandem duo).
This was probably the worst possible type of inning for Wandy after his team put up a decent lead for him. He had a 4-1 lead, and the bottom of the order... a walk and 2 hits later, its a one run game and the guy who just hit a ball that never landed is up again.
