Woo! Even Pettitte got a hit off of their pitcher! Yay for having only one out with the top of the order coming up!

yeah, but the astros gotta learn to convert with the bases loaded.. i've watched way too many games where we just end up stranding everybody :(

But, Ausmus already converted on the other bases loaded situation in the inning.

To ask for conversions in every single bases loaded situation you have is just tempting the baseball gods... especially since they gave us the gift with Ensberg beating the rundown.

the thing that was so nice about spiers is he hit about .270-.280 and it seemed like, even when he got out, he always made nice contact. you didn't see him go down swinging at sliders in the dirt or anything and he didn't really hit homers, he just made nice contact. and played a ton of positions. he was indeed a minor deity.

edit: i shortchanged him. he hit .288 in his 5 main seasons with us.

The main difference is that, when healthy, Bill Spiers was a legitimate #2 hitter in a good batting order for the Astros. Bruntlett may be developing a little bit of a legend status this season, but he is far from the hitter Bill Spiers was.

in addition to being a great hitter, that bob stoops is a very nice fielder.

The Nats are damn pesky... I'm glad we're done with them. Even though we won 5 of the 7 games, there was only one game that was truly a blowout (the 14-1 game).

The Marlins also lost tonight... that leaves the Phillies as the only team within 2 games of us. I still hold strong that the NL East teams are all gonna beat up on each other, and whoever is the "best" of that bunch will be our main competition (thus, we should really just root for the Braves... if they end up being the best team in the NL East head-to-head competition down the stretch, there really is no competition for the wild card.)

Wheeler just gave up the homer so he'd get a save ;-)

Chalk up another series win! Time to sweep the Pirates and put some real distance between us and all the pretenders
