I guess Hayes is trying to point out (in Hayes fashion) that the reader can't assume an institutional magazine is endorsing policy in its reports. Credible journalism should only report the facts instead trying to become one.

This doesn't absolve basso (or many other members). He tried to use National Geographic's credibility by including it in the title. Even if the point above is common sense to some people, basso's posting history with titles makes it likely that it was intentional.

what a crock- there's a convention, IIRC, suggested by clutch himself, of citing the source of a report in the thread title. most of us are smart enough to understand there's a difference between the title of the thread, and any report contained therein. that you guys are actually debating this is yet another indication of how findamentally ****ed up debate in this country has become. you my friend, are pathetic.

    respectfully,

    basso

LOL, basso then be a prince and discuss the science of this, and tell me why you always align yourself with minority views on this issue, no matter how contoversial and far-fetched (as this article indicates rather clearly).

Tell me, is it because of science or politics that you posted this? I think it is the latter. I can honestly say that if the IPCC honestly and truly reversed itself on GW I'd believe them. Would you do the same if this random Russian astrophysicist did? I think not. I think you'd move on to the next GW denier who fits your politics and start posting articles by him - "accidentally" editing the titles in the process.

Out of the last ten threads you started in the D&D, you've only included the source twice. Six out of the last twenty. The crock has been some of the bait and switch titles for the other threads you've started. You lack consistency in following Clutch's rules, my fellow friend. And your agenda is transparent.

I can't speak to Basso's intent, but I really disagree that a title starting with "National Geographic:" implies National Geographic has come to some determination of their own on the topic rather than printing an article about the following subject. I don't think makes any sense at all. There is a big difference between something like:

National Geographic: Mars Melt Hints at Solar Cause

    and

National Academy of Science: Mars Melt Hints at Solar Cause

True, but man that jig was sweet. Wooooooo! Can't dance all night long!

Except that Hayes this has been a frequent sore point of yourself in regard to thread titles that imply a plural when the main article of them actually deal with a singular. Whether we should be smart enough to figure that out isn't relevent in regard to your usual adeptness and pointing out that innacuracy. (whether any of us who haunt the D&D regularly are smart in the first place is a questionable already. ;) )

Like I dissapointed New Yorker Hayes you have dissapointed me. :(

    D&D Nothing but dissapointment.

    ;) ;)

It is true that I have pointed out fallacious thread titles before - just not sure this is one. There is a difference between addition and subtraction. :) Anyway, I should get points for a Ric Flair clip.

i posted it because i thought it was worth of debate, and to demo that the science is far from settled, assertions to the contrary notwithstanding. as i said earlier, we should all work to implement some of the proposed solutions, since they have other, residual benefits, that are worthwhile regardless of whether you agree that the globe is warming, and is so, why.

personally, i think we should nuke iran- the resulting nuclear winter would help cool off the earth. it's a win win!
