Problem is third parties are never "reasonable", they always take radical positions one issue or another.

But, that's sort of the point. Look at most of the issue polls. Most of them have remained largely the same for years.

Most wouldn't have an abortion but don't support making it illegal.
    Most support the death penalty.
Most favor less government spending and lower taxes.
Most favor government funding of healthcare and education.
Most favor gun control but do not favor a ban on guns.
Most do not support gay marriage but do support legal unions.
    Most support term limits.
Most support a cap on law suits.
Most support a living wage and reducing tax breaks to corporations.

Most of these are issues that have been tracked for years, some decades. There has been some shift over time, but mostly they have remained the same. I don't agree with the majority on some of them and do on others. I think most of us probably feel that way.

In general, only about 20 percent of America sit on the fringe of politics - far right or far left. Most Americans are somewhere in the middle with a lean one way or the other and that lean is almost always based on social issues rather than economic because those are part of the moral structure of their lives.

If a real third party was formed that was able to bridge the gap between those on the fringes of politics, it would crush both the GOP and the Dems. Unfortunately, we seem to be deeply entrenched in a two-party system even though the cracks in that system are really starting to show.

I'd rather be divided than take a loyalty oath or pledge.

    One Nation Under Bush
At a campaign rally, Republicans recite the "Bush Pledge."

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla.—"I want you to stand, raise your right hands," and recite "the Bush Pledge," said Florida state Sen. Ken Pruitt. The assembled mass of about 2,000 in this Treasure Coast town about an hour north of West Palm Beach dutifully rose, arms aloft, and repeated after Pruitt: "I care about freedom and liberty. I care about my family. I care about my country. Because I care, I promise to work hard to re-elect, re-elect George W. Bush as president of the United States."

You misunderstand... I didn't speak of passion, although there is plenty of it around, I spoke of polarization. I believe we are more polarized today, as a nation, than during Vietnam. As for passion, when you have friends, relatives and neighbors facing being drafted, having been drafted, or in Vietnam already, with 500,000 there, tens of thousands of dead and wounded, and a conflict far beyond the scale today in Iraq, passion is there in spades.

    I know about passion.

I had a phone poller call me... when I started answering in a right of center tone, we mysteriously got disconnected.

    Go figure.

They actually said they were doing a poll about Hollywood and the film industry... then it got political in tone real quick.

Questions about "How do you view entertainers voicing their political beliefs?" and "Do you agree with the tone out of Hollywood?" etc.

I basically said that "I DO NOT agree that Hollywood reflects the heart and soul of our nation as they tend to claim..."

    Pause.

    *click*

    (dial tone)

BTW- same group called me about a year ago about the movies I attend, rented, etc. And I had agreed to poll again.
