I think the National Anthem must be sung live to count. I would imagine many artists could turn out some great prerecorded versions. It's having the balls to sing it live and sing it good that makes it great. So what if they slip up on a note or two.
Pre-recorded or not, That Whitney Houston version is my favorite. I damn near tear up every time I hear it. And Mo Cheeks is easily on my favorite person list for helping that girl out. Tone-deaf or not, that was one of the nicest things I've ever seen anyone do for anyone.
Destiny's Child - Houston All-Star game --- LIVE - not prerecorded. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/uXJfBogMnPo"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/uXJfBogMnPo" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
I was waiting for somebody to say it but seriously, who gives a rat's ass? The moment and everything was just right, prerecorded or not.
I give a rats ass...prerecording doesn't count. Sing it live or not at all!! Even Pamela Bell sings it live and blows Whitney away. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0g5y1kQPHlI"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0g5y1kQPHlI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
OK. She still sung it whether it was live or not. Some people act like she pulled a Milli-Vanilli or something, sheesh. Let it go.
I think it aint even close. Marvins is #1. It is just unreal. The dude was as cool as one can get and made the anthem just cool, absolutely beautiful. Jimi and whitney come next imho.
The National Anthem is one song I couldn't care less if someone lip-synchs or pre-records... the meaning of the song and how it's conveyed to me is all I care. As far as I'm concerned anyone can sing it, pre-recorded or not, as long as they show respect and hammer the meaning home. But, we can disagree. -------------------------------------------- Here's one I've always loved for its simplicity and ability to evoke emotion : Jose Feliciano - there's a story behind this version. I remember in a poli-sci class one of our teachers played this and some of my classmates started crying after hearing it. : The story : http://www.josefeliciano.com/anthem.html The song : http://www.josefeliciano.com/downloads/starspangledbanner.mp3
I agree, prerecording it is an easy way out. I bet Ashlee Simpson or Paris Hilton could sing a pretty good national anthem if it was prerecorded.
Yea, on their actual album's they have a decent voice. But when they sing live there are disastrous results alot of the times.
Can't stand Ben Harper, seriously cannot stand him -- but he had me clapping and cheering in my living room. Probably the most fun I had during Game 3. Marvin Gaye's version makes me want to hug Taliban members. If that doesn't bring a tear, then you need to get out of the continental 48. Gorgeous, soulful, reverent, perfect. Put it in my coffin.
There are some notes vocalists cannot hit live that they can hit in a studio setting, no matter how good they are. Hendrix's fingers could always get to those frets -- Whitney's could not. I don't mean to defend lip-synchers, but that's an apples/oranges comparisons.
i didn't really like harper's but he put a nice little ending to it. hendrix's is far superior. whitney's is the best, i don't care when she sung it, she still actually sung it.
I agree that it must be live to count. too much editing, electronic vocal correction and doctoring in the studio makes lip synching to a track a complete farce. say no to lipsynching. either sing and play or find a new job.
I'm curious - do all you that are so against pre-recording not buy cd's or download mp3's? I wouldn't think so since they're all doctored and pre-recorded - which is a farce, right? I guess you only buy the "live" cuts.
Not really. There are things you can do in studio that you can't duplicate live with instruments too.
I buy CD's.. I don't buy tickets to go see the artist mime the material. If something is being sold to me as live it damn well better be live or I am not buying it. The only tickets to an illusion I might buy are for a magic show. You can keep the rest of the illusions in Vegas and away from me.
