No, MM...you really just aren't 'in' with the movie. All kidding aside, though, someone who doesn't like a Wes Anderson movie wouldn't like Napoleon Dynamite. I didn't see that Anderson thread but if you feel that way about those flicks, this was pretty much going to be a lost cause from the start.
That movie was disturbingly weird. Didn't if I should laugh or be sick through most of it. Didn't seem like it was as good as everyone else was making it out to be.
WTF??? I now find myself saying "you freakin' idiot!" all the time. Ugh, anyone want to buy a slightly used copy of this flaming pile o' crap of a DVD?
This movie could never be as bad as the worst movie ever made. If you watch "Quarantine", you could enjoy everything.
I'm starting to hate most of Wes Anderson's flicks I haven't seen the new one but I just can't sit through his movies
Then don't, I repeat don't watch, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. I enjoyed Anderson's weird, quirky little world. He is such an original filmaker. This is why he has such a great cast every film.
My 2 cents on Napoleon Dynamite: One thing that most people don't know about this movie is that it was originally a short film project by a BYU graduate. My wife and I both saw the short at a student film festival sometime last year. It was a huge success then, and the writer decided to turn it into a full-length movie after graduation. I don't think it translated as well into a full-length movie because the pacing was set for a short. They had to throw in more scenes to give it more of a sense of a plot. But I still think the movie is beyond hillarious in some parts.
By the way, I'm planning on buying "Garden State" on a blind buy based on critical acclaim and the fact that I want to support Zach Braff... Will I get screwed over again? Well, you know what they say: "There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."
Oh man, you have to buy Garden State. I would buy it just for Peter Saarsgard's performance. But hey I am a bit biased. Peter is one of my favorite character actors.
send all of your Wes Anderson films and copy of Napolean Dynamite to me if you hate them so much.... every store was sold out of ND, and Wes Anderson is my favorite working director right now. did everyone in this thread like Kill Bill Volume 2? probably, i thought it was the biggest pile of garbage ever made. kb 1 was tolerable however
would hate for you to think you are the only one.... After hearing all the glowing reviews here, I watched it prepared to LOL..... but alas....I guess it just wasnt to be....I didnt get it. must have been too cerebral for me...give me Mel Brooks and Monty Python anyday...
I LOVE the part where Kip tries to demonstrate the durability of the 24 Piece Set by backing over it, and then just hits reset and bails out of there when it busts. I wish that they would have kept the deleted scene of Napoleon b****-slapping Summer Wheatley's boyfriend.
Haven't tried Napolean Dynamite....but since we are having a Wes Anderson Schism...put me in the Anti- Category. (hurts me to do it too, cause as a local playwright and actor, my heart wants to support the local guy...on the plus side it looks like he is doing just fine without my help, so I can save my eight bucks and let others on this board do my supporting for me.
for whatever reason, girls (and especially sorority girls i know) absolutely love this film. they quote it ad nauseum and it gets quite annoying. the movie has it's moments i suppose, but overall it wasn't anything special.
I loved KB1 - but KB2 wasn't even close to the same level. I thought QT did a better part with the Japanese cultural elements than the Chinese, and the pure revenge of the first movie is easier to do than the mixed emotional content of the second. I want to own KB1, but I'll just rent KB2 at the dollar DVD machine.
