Jordan during the finals vs lakers.. Then penny hardaway turned it up a notch.. Got stuck with bball for good.
Basketball cards made me a fan of the game, they made me want to play. Ricky Grace of the Perth Wildcats and Shaq also helped.
Same here man Barkley got me hooked and finished his career in Houston by taking less money for a shot at the Ring.... That stockton shot that ended his career breaks my heart
thats why im a Suns and Rockets fan.. IT was chuck that brought me over to being a fan of the Rockets.. of course I loved watching the Dream play also.. even though he beat the Suns that one year..
Elvin Hayes and Ken Spain. Elvin, of course, was a huge star at UH and nationally recognized. Picked #1 in the draft by the Rockets and went on to have a great career. He was the hero in The Game of the Century at the Astrodome, when they beat the team "that no one can beat," John Wooden's UCLA, when they had Lew Alcindor and had had an amazing string of victories. I followed Ken Spain after high school when he went to UH and played for the Coogs. While he didn't have a big career in the pros, he had a very important role on those UH teams with Elvin and was a hell of a nice guy.
Robert Horry was my favorite player when I first started watching the Rockets. He used to dunk, drain 3s, and reminded me of Will smith. I was 11 yrs old.
Charles Barkley. I adopted him as my favorite player in 93 when I was 8 years old. I followed him while he was in Phoenix and rooted for the suns. I cried when Elie hit the kiss of death shot against him and the suns. I then became a rockets fan when Barkley was traded over. I have been a rockets fan ever since. So I guess I can thank Barkley for being a die hard rockets fan.
p.s. does this make me not an official rockets fan since i loved another team for 4 years? I was just a kid though!! I love the rockets! please accept me clutchfans! ha jk.
you guys are lucky i'm drugged up or else i would be the normal tinman. good freaking lord, you kids make no sense. i saw tracy mcgrady too in orlando, i only though of him as a good fantasy player. but no way in hell is he anywhere close to the greats, maybe i grew up with the mentality that winning championships makes you a superstar, you know Bird, Jordan, Magic, etc when toughness meant something. but now i understand cause it's the softer generation that has no loyalty, its about how much not about how hard its about how many points somebody scores that's not really amazing. Seeing a guy destroy an entire team on both ends of the court and getting quadruple teamed and hacked is something some of us luck Rockets fans saw in Hakeem Olajuwon. we've seen the best, we've seen dominance , they have dvds now, go rent them
