If Ty can focus and stay sober... the change can put him equal to Goran Dragic and Kyle Lowry...after they left us...lol

Offensively he is top 7-8 PG for sure. He is cat-like quick and has that killer crossover which breaks angles.

    Defensively he is a liability.

Overall I still rank him top 10 PG in the league.

Problem is I am not sure he can co-exists with Harden either, because of his defense and the fact he need ball in his hand as well.

Curry, Westbrook, Paul, Lillard, Wall, Irving, maybe Conley (because of his D)

Is it homerism too think of Lawson as the 7th or 8th best PG in the NBA?

I feel like I'm overlooking some people

    He's top 15.

    1.) Curry
    2.) Westbrook
    3.) Paul
    4.) Wall
    5.) Irving - Tier 1

    6.) Lillard
    7.) Conley
    8.) Lowry
    9.) Dragic
    10.) Bledsoe - Tier 2

    11.) Rose
    12.) Teague
    13.) Parker
    14.) Knight
    15.) Lawson - Tier 3

    16.) Jackson
    17.) Rubio
    18.) Thomas
    19.) Collison
    20.) Rondo - Tier 4

And anybody below those 20 to me are considered bad starting PG's.

He could possibly be the best point guard the Rockets have ever had...for sure since 2000

That feels like a slap to Lowry / Dragic, they belong in that star tier as well.

I guess it's a bit debatable with Lowry since he had a bad second half of last year, but he was as good or better than Wall, Kyrie etc for 1.5 seasons before that.

Tier 1 Curry Westbrook Paul Wall

Tier 2 Irving Conley Lowry Lawson Lillard

    Tier 3 Teague Dragic Bledsoe

Tier 4 Knight Parker Rondo MCW Rose Rubio Dwill

Tier 5 Jackson, Jennings, Collison, Hill, Thomas

I'd put lawson in tier 2. Averaging 10 assists per game is very impressive. People forget how good this guy was a few years back when the Nuggets had some fight in them. He was unstoppable at times. Im not a homer and I may be in the minority, but I'd put a motivated Lawson slightly above Lillard and I think highly of Lillard who will most likely be the better player in a few years.

He might be a better offensive player than Klow and better assist leader but not on Defense.

    Lowery/Dragic are so overrated .

Lawson for me is Aaron Brook 3.0

Quick , can score & can assist .

Both lillard and Lawson are bad at defense so you can't pull
That card. Offensivly it's debatable, I still feel like I wouod prob choose lillard but having said that Lawson is hands down the better passer/playmaker and if he can get his shot back to 47/38 range he will he very close to lillard scoring wise.

But lillard is prob the ideal pg to pair with harden and I do think with his size and athletism he can be a good defender just like harden if they try harder. Lawson is so small that at best he can be a pest but not a true stopper.

Lawson is prob the quickest guy I've seen in the NBA since Allen iverson his first few years in philly. This guy can get to the hoop at will and creates a lot of easy scoring options for bigs. Howard, jones and Capella are going to feast big time playing with him. They just better be ready because the passes are coming quick and often.

If you go by PER last year, Ty Lawson ranked 15th at the point guard spot:

    http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/statistics/_/position/pg

Granted, there are a lot of good point guards in the NBA right now. Everyone is so quick to praise Morey for trading for Ty Lawson, but if he just kept Kyle Lowry or Goran Dragic, the Rockets would have had a better point guard the last few years already. I judge Morey by the number of championship rings he's brought to the Rockets. I believe anyone on this forum could match that total in the same role.

Speaking of PER, if you look at all of the positional rankings last season, it makes you really wonder how the Clippers can choke so badly in the playoffs:

    PG: CP3 #3 in PER
SG: JJ Redick #13 in PER
SF: Matt Barnes #45 in PER (Replaced by Paul Pierce this year)
PF: Blake Griffin #2 in PER
C: Deandre Jordan #10 in PER

It just goes to show that analytics don't tell the whole story.
